Hey guys this rubber rest fell off my tank I'm wondering if I should buy a new one or just glue it back on where it came off. Cheers

good araldite glue maybe?... look like it was glued before?.. or does it have a busted nub there somewhere?... really hard to tell just which bit it is from that pic.. 

It looks like it all there. Will barge all purpose cement do?

hmmm .. barge... looked it up ... i 'think' so ...  just so long as it holds up under heat? ... lot of heat rises under tank area ... does it say any 'temp range' on the packet or tube?

the rubber block .. thats from near the back of tank out to one side? ... just a vibration damper/rest block i think?

Yep, just adhere it back on.     You might try some high-strength 2-sided tape (like carpet tape).  When mine started falling off, the original goop looked more like tape than glue to me. 

I have some Selley's ultra repair so I might try that

I think it is double sides tape but I don't have any so I was thinking a little bit if glue to put it back onto the piece of rubber that it should be stuck on

well .. flammable just means it burns when in presence of flame... not necessarily that it will burst into flame in a hot environment...

and if you did happen to spill fuel onto a exhaust or had a serious electrical fault that caused a flame ... that then made the glue burn... i dont think the glue burning would be your major worry right then!! ..

a lot of glue is flammable... means you have to take care to let it dry properly  and not use or place it near open flame wet or dry!! ..

but radiant heat is a different thing entirely!! ... you'd have to have the whole engine glowing red pretty much to flame up the glue then!...

i was thinking more like a hi temp grill paint or something.... some of them are rated to maybe 500 - 600 deg C (930- 1100F) ... some higher ... does the glue say 'dont go hotter environment than X ?'

hang on... i just checked the MSDS on barge cement... it contains petroleum spirits, toluene .. and several other things like that ...

which kinda means you can also use petrol to clean it up... or dissolve it...

so .. maybe not use this one...

however if you do a quick look around online there should be a suitable glue that suits your needs... a high temp exhaust/gasket silicon perhaps??... cant cost that much!

Ill try the Selley's stuff if that does not work then ill need to get something else. One the tank is on the stopper won't go anywhere. So I guess the glue just needs to hold it while I put the tank on. Ill give it an hour to dry

the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) on selleys ultra repair says >250deg C as the autoignition point... which is pretty hot for radiant heat under that part of the tank... so theoretically it should be fine! ... it gets hot under there... but with semi open airflow (even when stopped) i have a hard time imagining 250+ C ??!!
