My buddy & I (both seniors) are departing British Columbia, Canada and arriving in Cairns on Nov. 06. We will spend 5 days there then rent a cage and follow the coast road to Adelaide and back to Sydney by Dec. 04. We are planning on staying in Hostels along the way.

These are some of the things I have on my list to visit. If you see things that I "must see" while I am in the neighborhood, please advise. My buddy & I are mainly interested in seeing and experiencing the scenery and learning some history about the places we visit, but not going to the museums.

Gr Barrier Reef, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Glass Mountains

Brisbane Downtown, Coolangatta / Snapper Rocks / Scenic Run, Byron Bay, Hwy F3 to Sydney

Melborne Central Business District, South Melborne Historic buildings
Twelve Apostles Rocks, Great Ocean Road

Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa Valley

Adelaide Downtown, Aboriginal Cultural Institute (Tandanya), Gorge Scenic Drive

Canberra Parliament Bldgs, Diplomatic Quarter, Bus # 34

Sydney (4 Days) Opera House, The Rocks, The Bridge, Manly, Darling Harbour

Man oh man.... yeah, we got places to show you alright.

Smoke a joint at Nimbin, nice scenery along the way. Lunch at The Channon Tavern. Brekky at Flutterbies cafe after stopping at the border for a photo op. Lions Rd. All great scenery. The mysterious rocky outcrop thing outside Boonah.

Yeah, we ride, you follow in your car  :thumb:

You Guys are Awesome !  Thanks for the tips.  I will plot them on my route and see what I can fit in.

Really a shame we can't be on a bike, but too much gear to carry with us and renting bikes is Waay expensive.

Will keep you posted through this thread on my progress.

It is a One Shot Bucket List Deal and we are getting Really Excited.

If you're going west of Brisbane, you can go over Mt Mee and stop at the Pitstop Cafe and have something to munch on while looking at this:

Barrie and his chum. Car hire companies in Oz are bastards to deal with.  Drop in here:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/149?&p=2

and have a look at the travel posts and then search up on "Car Hire" on this Whirlpool Forum. Usually some pretty uptodate tripping advice there. Solid posters.

Car hire tips, make sure you have bought adequate insurance cover, you'll need windscreen insurance on this trip, check with the car company about whether it's OK to go off the bitumen (get this in writing/on the hire document), take some pics of the vehicle before you sign off/leave the depot (saves a whole lot of hassel later), you don't need a 4-wheel for this trip, just something safe, with a bit of power and reasonable  kpls.

Are you going to dump the car in Sydney? If u keep it maybe stay over around Manly where parking is a lot more feasible and u can jump the Manly Fery in for a beaut ride to all the features. Maybe think about letting the car go in Adelaide and flying - cheap as chips - back to Sydney. Will give ya a couple of more days in SA. You gotta get up to the Clare Valley in the Mid-North (north of Barossa)...it's Godzone.

Enjoy, watch out for the cops, passing the attitude test there will help you heaps if you get pulled.
