Ruck,
here's one of my last rides on my old gs500. I'm the first rider shown.

A smaller bike in the right hands, or when you get more experience can hang with bigger bikes in the canyons. Its the straights where you'll get smoked but who cares about that anyway? I usually ride with guys on 1200's and other big bikes and as long as the road turned I was right there with them mixing it up. Thats whats great about the gs. Its a great learning tool without the fear that comes with a newbie riding a high powered bike. I never thought twice about ham-fisting the throttle to full stop coming out of a turn. I usually had to, and I had to carry lots of entry speed into the corners cuz you need to keep your momentum.

Its a fun bike and a great learning too. Buy used, any year as they're mostly the same from '89-00 and 01-03 are slightly different. 04 is same bike with fairing (dont buy new). Expect to pay as little as $1000 or as much as $2000. When you do upgrade you can sell it for what you paid.

Good luck.

Whats Ebonics????

I don't think that has reach Australia yet???

Is that a serious question?

It' is a common name for some dialects of American English mainly spoken by African Americans (or whatever the current PC term for this group of people is)
There is a debate among linguists if this is a seperate dialect or merely sloppy speaking, but today it is pretty much accepted as an own dialect. Linguists even find traces of west African languages in it.

It is also "hip" today to write like this if you are not part of the culture that brought forth this dialect.

I thought it was Gangsta Talk?

Like snoop or fiddy?

MarkusN

I'd think Gagsta is a sub-dialect of Ebonics.

Its sloppy is all,   this Ebonics is a slangish and in some cases Slurish as to be defined as "Black Phonics" or (plz forgive, no offence intended) "Niger talk".  Ebonics goes way back slaves, being educated enough to carry out orders and give replys, this led to a chopped version of english.  From this point, over time Culturaly related Slang was mixxed in and "refined" (used sparingly). Much like american english differs from English Proper.  For the Record Ebonics wasnt used By just African/dark skined slaves, but by all slaves not educated in the english language. it can even be argued that Poor education gives the same results as can be seen in (im going to hell for this post i know it) poverty level living like that of HillBillies.  this is no real reason this language SHOULD exist today. But it does, Sadly its more of a Choice then the result .

whats that? stand against the wall over there? why yes, a blind fold would be just grand. thankyou!

Well, for the same reason you could blame American English for being "slangy, not proper English" as it deviated from the "Original" once cultures got separated.

It is a fact that those two groups of society mix very little, and thus language developed differently. Should we blame a black kid for speaking this language when he/she enters school, when all they have ever experienced is this flavor of English?

snapper

Woman to woman- do as Pantablo suggests.  On straightaways you won't be able to keep up with an R6.  I ride with a Seca thats as old as my GS and a new Triumph 955.  If your R6 folks are friends they won't leave you in the dust.
As for the GS its a workhorse.  It's so reliable!  Not too mention inexpensive and fun to mod out.  Great first bike.

You can find GS's almost anywhere in great condition.  I bought mine a few years ago its a 91 and had 3K miles on it.  There are plenty of them out there just like that.

Things to look for:  Rust in the gas tank....
Also- if the bike has stock tires... plan on changing them soon.

Hope this helps!

No, and not just any one single group either, however i do place blame when the education is presant and not assimilated or more to the Point refused. as stated before its more of a Choice then ill effect of bad or lack of education. this is not trying to Preserve your heritage type of language/dialect.    Giving another example, if i go to another country to live, work, escape what ever and the local language is NOT american, do i honestly expect the native populance to learn it so i can understand and survive? NO, i will have to take the pains to learn the language of the land,  even if i went to the UK, i would have to learn the syntax and gramer of proper english to comunicate with as few missunderstandings as possible.

Yes, some grammar has been traced to West African languages.  No, there is no debate among linguists in the US.  I would be shocked to find any (like even one) chair-holding linguist in the US who still claimed that.  That's the kind of statement that would get you relieved of tenure.  The linguistic and speech-pathology field has come down quite firmly on the issue for more than a decade.

To some degree, the point is moot.  If a school requires that students speak a particular dialect, then the students must learn to do so, regardless of their native language or dialect.

I'll agree with Blueknyt, that non-blacks may speak in black-english dialects; this does not imply that it's poor speaking.  Similarly, immigrants in Toronto may still say "eh, what's this aboot?".
You cannot escape our master plan!

MarkusN

Still have to hear a Canadian saying "aboot". I hear "aboat" (sort of) a lot, though.

I agree that the "immigrant" is the one who has the duty to fit in (i.e. learn to speak and spell understandably). I also see the desire of certain groups to define their identity via speech, though. I think both arguments have room beside each other.

(Heck, I was forced to learn my first foreign language at four when I started to read, as  Swiss German is not a written language.)
