Thinking about buying a new cage. One of my customers has a 2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon 2.8L V6 5-spd. He's had it since 2004, it's got 125,000 miles on it. Lots of service records and such. New clutch, timing belt, valve cover gaskets, head gasket, etc.. I don't know how much he wants for it yet. So we'll see on that.

I've read some mixed things about this car. Some of them have got me concerned as far as really expensive and frequent maintenance required. Weird stuff breaking all the time, that sort of thing. I know some of you here are mechanics and some of you may even own this car or one like it. Input would be greatly appreciated!

We had a 2004 corolla that had 120k miles on it and nothing but one bad wheel bearing and oil changes.  Sold it for $5300 1.5 years ago.

125K and all that repair history... I am not sure about this choice.

Well...that's what I was thinking.

wanting to say it was a vr6? or whatever its called. tbh its almost in the area where repairs of the non cheap variety start to happen. a yota would be a good bet, or a honda wagon if you can locate one.

I work on those a lot. The V6 in there is different than the VR6 engine, its a normal v6 engine. The cars aren't too bad but at that mileage they begin to need a lot of expensive attention unless the car has been immaculately cared for.
