Hi Guys,

I'm sorry for once again not letting hear anything, but i have to move pretty soon, so the bike has been put on the back end. However, i did manage to get the carb off again and i bought carb cleaner, so I'll clean it thoroughly this time.

Larmish, can you tell me which connection it was? Did you also have spark before you cleaned it up?

Thnx!

Hi Everybody!

So i finally got around to cleaning the carb. I did it following this guys tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ2Crz1wVts

However, when i mounted it on the bike and got everything hooked up, no dice. Bike will cranck over, but will not fire up. Not even with start pilot/starter fluid.

Stupid question round:
1. If i put the fuel petcock on pri, which on my bike is arrow up, is it normal the carbs leak fuel everywhere?

Also, do you guys have any idea what i could be missing? Could it be an electrical malfunction eventhough i have spark and everything else?

Im bringing the bike away to a mechanic this tuesday, but i hope i can fix it myself with your help. It's a pride thing hahaha. Also maybe a bit of money thing.. But lets keep it at pride haha!

Thnx everyone!

Prime is meant to be used to fill the float bowls, if you leave it on it can over flow. If
You could have flooded the cylinders. You can pull the plugs and look in to check.

Starting could be lots of things, timing, bad spark, bad grounds, bad wiring. Have you eliminated any of those possibilities yet?
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Well, a buddy of mine measured a lot of stuff. Don't know what it all was, but it had to do with the ignition system. According to him everthing is showing proper results. All within the specs.

However, we were under the impression that you couldn't do allot to the timing of a GS500 since it is determined by the two contact points and the fixed rotor thingy (Sorry, i don't know the correct English terms). Was this a wrong assumption? Because we tried to find info on it, but what we found all was custom work. Drilling in the plate and what not.

Thanks for sharing you view.
