Hi guys, I was hoping to get some advice on a handlebar replacement for the GS. I've checked out the wiki and decided I wanted to go with a clubman design. Here is what I ordered:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-Clubman-1-Handlebars-w-Bar-End-Mirrors-For-CB-XS-GS-KZ-Bobber-Cafe-Racer-/400443272587?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AGS500F&hash=item5d3c476d8b&vxp=mtr

I got my stock handlebar stripped and removed but found the diameter of the new one was too large for my instruments. Would someone be so kind as to provide some exact specs for a clubman pair that will fit? I had seen somewhere that 7/8 would do it, but maybe a confirmation on that number would be great too. Many thanks as always.

I believe the bars should be 7/8. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, 7/8"

The bikemaster bars fit (I have a set of the SuperSport bars on my GS now) and cost around $20

Ghand, will you use the end bar mirrors or leave the original ones?

Before you ship them back, are you sure that it's not the little nubs that aren't causing the issue? Each control set has a little nub on it that keeps it in place on the bars. With new bars, you have to drill a hole so the controls will seat.

He bought a 1" bar. The GS500 uses a 7/8" bar. It's the wrong size, that's what's causing the issue, not the nubs.

Oh. I didn't even look at the link lol. My bad.

I was using bar end mirrors before, they likely won't work as well on club man set though. I decided to order the Bikemaster Superbike bars instead.

They will work. just mount them above the bar, not under.

I like the Superbike bars. Did a few 200 mile days consecutively and wasn't toooo sore at the end of it. Definitely less extreme than the clubmans.
