I'm in the midst of changing out my old, leaky fork seals, and my only question is where in the hell can i get a square driver to open the fork caps? I know its a silly question and shows off my lack of mechanical knowledge, but I can't find anything at home depot thats the right size. Its a 91 with the old school square indented fork caps. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Umm... isn't just a half inch drive ratchet (no socket or attachment required) that fits on there?

Oh, and here is a video I watched a long time ago when I was doing some fork maintenance on my '04.

Edit: Oh, and don't feel too silly... I had this same problem when changing the oil on my push mower... the drain plug had an inset square, and I couldn't think of any tool that would fit in there... gave up and put it off for a few weeks... ends up I had the epiphany when watching the video above as its the same as these caps on the older forks  :icon_rolleyes:

Yep, 1/2 drive ratchet or power bar. It helps to break them loose before you unclamp the forks from the triple trees.

I did my forks last year and the video above was a huge help.

Dont try to remove it with the upper clamp still tight. Loosen the upper truple, but leave the lower triple tight.
Cool.

I have old triples. One in a vise makes a great fixture for working on forks.
A magnet on a bolt is a handy tool for pulling out the washers and springs.
