Don't think you can go wrong with a gerber knife for $15!  Now sell it on ebay and make some easy money!

Most likely a cheap knock off - I found some counterfeit Gerber branded knives here a while back and let Fiskars know - the counterfeits I found had the most dodgiest fold - locking mechanism.. and the steel used in manufacture was definitely not the same grade. Fiskars told me that they have issues with Counterfeit product around the world... the price you pay for having a good brand name..

That being said, with a straight blade you should be sweet - definitely ok for $15

Gerbers are excellent knives. I've got a friend in the Guard, and he gave me one of his extras. It's by far one of the best knives I've owned.

the clip on this piece isn't dodgy by any means. took me a bit to get used to it. you place hand on knife as if you were to hold it, use thumb, depressing spring, which releases it from holster, at same time pulling up.  inserting is similar to a pistol holster. push in and it clicks into place.

I have quite a few Gerbers - multitool and folding knives - have noticed something odd since Fiskars bought the Gerber brand a while back.  My son purchased an identical multitool to mine and it got rust spots on the stainless within a few months.  Mine is about 15 years old and absolutely shiny despite being in some pretty interesting environments... possibly not quite the same grade of steel that they used to use.

That being said, I have had excellent support from Gerber - broke the spring on the scissors and the can opener (using it as a lever) and the local rep had it serviced for free (all parts replaced and new pouch). This is after 10 years and no receipt of purchase...

Definately good steel with the older Gerbers.. as many a deer or sheep will attest to after losing its coat.. holds an edge better than the Solingen knives I used to use.
