Things i learned, 89-2009 frame, the 2009 frame section that you can take out to remove the engine it different. had no idea until i tried to bolt it on, now have to find one.

been there knowls. but so far your job was alot better than mine. most fun i had was a teardown and rebuild of an HD 88CI twin in 6 hours. kinda an extra credit thing at school. bonus if it ran. ( it did)

Yay got some parts, put gear indicator switch, speedo, right side clutch cover, signal generator, carbs, throttle tube, hand controls, complete wiring harness, tail light, rear plastics  bent the front fairing bracket over now the fairings fit perfect. got to get oil, and finish the carb hose routing put tank on and new grips, see if everything works. might be able to ride next week.

maybe tomorrow or monday will be able to try and start it. then once everything is working and running perfect, will take some of it back apart and have it powered coated and the plastics painted. frame is near perfect little blem on right side so will just fix that. top triple, lower forks, rear swing arm will be powder coated.

Thanks , its been fun. Im hoping to be able to ride it once before winter. Its been raining here for the last few days. But time will tell. Going to pick up a parts bike when i go to the cities jn a couple weeks for training. Might try to make another bike if motor is good.

That 89 removable engine cradle is different from the other years.
Did it change from say 00 to 01 ? Or 02 - 04 ...

AFAIK, 89 - 90 was a change, 90-09 is all same.

If you mean the part of the frame that removes to get the engine out, it changed in 2001 with the new rear end.
Otherwise frames are the same. Motor mounts the same in all years. In fact I use the older side stand on newer frames because I don't like the bike leaning so much. I suppose they went to a shorter side stand with the fairing so less chance for the wind to blow it over. Otherwise I have no idea.

Hell ya. switched everything over and she runs. Just got to get the new grips, horn, and my seat lock rekeyed, new battery, and a little wiring and it will be done until winter when i have it painted and powered coated. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Ok got new battery. grips, and horn on order drove it around had to put on old petcock one i got leaks. So will order a new one this winter. Fixed high idle. Also going to order a new windshield other that it running very well for now.

Leaking petcock: probably the o-ring is dry and cracked. Should be an easy fix.
