OK. so I just went to my local bike shop and had them order me a new air filter. Its not a KN it just says high flow. Im pretty sure its just OEM. So im just trying to figure out if I need to rejet my carbs with the new filter or not. I also have a stock exaust and stock airbox. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That great scam called "Hi Flo filtro" ... if its paper, its = stock.
Now you need to rejet a stock bike almost. But, you dont need to any more so with "hi flo filtro".

Cool.

FGaaaa you rejet it to something slightly richer than stock.

Its a 2005 Gs500f i dont know where it was made. As far as I know everything is stock but its got 42000 miles on it. Like I said I dont know if I need to rejet cause I changed my air filter.

The Buddha

It would be the same as it was. I think US spec GS'es have 17.5 and 130. You can run 20/132.5 if you want to.

The short answer is no, you don't need to rejet.  Swap and go I say.  If it ran well with the old filter and you made no changes to the jetting, then it should run the same with the new one, maybe better if the old one was really dirty.

My bike had been jetted rich.  Then I removed my (old) stock air filter and replaced it with a Hi Flo Filtro.  Guess what?  The bike ran like crap, because a brand new "Hi Flo" filter actually allows less air through it than a used stock filter.  Go back to a stock Suzuki filter.  Or else switch to a K&N lunchbox and rejet.

Lets qualify my earlier post.  If your bike has stock jetting, it should run fine with an aftermarket replacement paper filter.  Not knowing your current jetting, I would say install it and see how it runs.

Ok so I installed the newer aftermarket filter and now she runs like a scalded dog. The reasoni changed the filter in the first place was because I noticed she was a little 'heavy' in the throttle and hesitant with get up and go. Now after a two hour test ride shes smooth and confident. No hesitation at all and that heavy feeling in the throttle is gone. Thanks for all the tips and advice. Once again I love this forum.

You ideally jet it to run @ its coolest. Not to make the most power. Anyway you're not so lean its getting any lean issues, so you're probably not more than a little bit lean.
