I have a question regarding engine mounts

Will an 07 gs500f engine & carbs fit on an 01 gs500e?

I have checked wiki and it seems that aside from brakes, fairing, and HP/torq rating, it seems to be identical.

Will it work - bolt on and operation wise or its a no go?

It will fit in exactly the same.
You will have to drill holes to mount the oil cooler.
If you're taking it out of another bike, note where things go.

Otherwise...
There is a vacuum reservoir (small black plastic can) that mounts to the round frame cross member, for sake of a better place.
Cap off the like for the PAIR system and remove the PAIR system
Ignore extra wires off of the carbs.

Should go easy.

Is the oil cooler necesary if its going into anaked bike? Aside from that thank you very much

Don't remove it. The engine is designed for it. Don't try to bypass it and if you plug it up, no oil flows because all oil goes through it.

It looks fine with it. See?


(OK, no gear but it was just going 25 feet testing brakes after we built this bike in 2 weekends.)

Do you have any pointers aside from noting where things go? I am no mech but i've done work on my car (practically almost all but timing belt and clutch); however, i'm a noob on bikes but i've done some work on them. They seem way more straight forward and more room to work with.

Also, is it necessary to use the carbs that came with the engine or are they interchangeable. I believe it isn't the same because of emission rating over the years as well as engine rated specs that the carbs needs to accomodate.

Electrical shouldn't be much of an issue as my field of study is Electrical Eng. Just need wiring schematics or blueprints and i'm set.

This is for my friend's gs500. He, as a couple members here (that i've read), experienced the same problem where he has forgotten to check the oil level and have caused the piston/connecting rod to snap.

Once again, Im very thankful for your help. You thus far is the engine swap guro i will be bugging if ever we hit the wall.

Use either set of carbs. Both sets are the newer 3 jet ones so they fit the same.
The 01's don't have all the vacuum crap that the newer ones have. I try to avoid some of the 2001-2002 parts because it was a transition year between the 89-2000 models and the 2004+ models.
If you use the newer set of carbs, parts will be easier to locate and you can get more help. Even though the carbs are basically the same 3 jet carbs, the minor differences in the bling-bling attached to them makes getting help easier on the familiar 2004+ ones.

Schematics are available. Best to get a Haynes book so you have data on everything and it has a schematic in the back - color coded so simple to follow.
