Aah southside boy, I won't hold it against you  :icon_razz: j/k Not too far away to catch up for a weekend ride at some point if you're keen.

Seat bag isn't a bad idea, I've gone off tank bags after getting some grit caught under mine and putting a few scratches on the tank.

I use Oxford saddlebags every day and the quality seems good for the price, pretty sure they have seat/tail bags etc. as well.

I ended up buying an Oxford First Time Tail bag. The first bag's base's zipper broke really early (I think it may have been an old model?), so I sent that back and got a new one. Works nicely. Cheers for the recommendation.

On another note, I am wondering where a good is to get parts for GS500 in Australia/QLD/Brisbane? preferably with an online store. Looks like I need new brake pads and the rotor looks.... A bit... unhealthy. I don't think the last owner looked after it too well.

Hey ParkerMax,
Where did you get the bag from in Brisbane?  Or was it an online buy?
Am interested in a seat/tail bag myself.  A mate has the Kriega 30 and is happy with it but it looks a bit fiddly to attach every day as a commuter bag.  How is the Oxford working out?
cheers

Hello,

I bought the bag from bikebiz.com.au which is in Parramatta, NSW. The bag has enough space for a helmet. The base is held down with a Velcro strap below the seat and 2 hockey straps (which is lame). I ended up with a faulty bag but then received another under warranty.

The bag does turn into a backpack when it is disconnected from the base. When reconnecting the bag to the base again the straps are annoying as they get in the way.

The zips are easy to use with gloves on. The bag comes with a waterproof/resistant cover which is handy.

I haven't been able to use it much while on the bike because the bike is being fixed. I haven't used it on the hwy, but I assume the straps and your body will keep it in place.

I am thinking of getting a small tank bag, because it is annoying getting off the bike to get at some things in the bag. But if you need it to carry stuff to work and back its pretty good.

When I get the bike back I will see how it copes on the hwy.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

ParkerMax

I gotta say I'm over the saddlebag thing... I want to make some hard bags up for my 450 so I don't have to keep putting the saddlebags on and off. The current ones aren't secure so I can't let them sit on the bike at work.

Just my 2c anyway... but of course nowadays 2c gets rounded down to 0c so my opinion is worthless  ;)

Yeah, I would love to have a ventura rack and bag instead of the tail bag, but they cost $500ish. Not prepared to pay that :(

p.s. in the States you would still have 2 pennies, so your opinion is worth something somewhere

Haha cool...

I'm thinking a bit of steel rod bent up and some brackets welded on to mount to the shock bolt, rear indicator bolt, and passenger footpeg mount to make some racks.

Then some aluminium sheeting to make the hard bags.

Just need some form of quick release but secure locking method to attach them to the racks and probably get out of it for something like $50 - 80 plus effort if I could get all the metal and aluminium as scrap  :thumb:

Shed's gotta come first though otherwise I have nowhere to hide my crap welding... I need lots and lots of practise!!!

I did welding in high school, I was terrible. Will be looking forward to some 'the making of' pics.

No second hand GS500 racks/brackets at the moment :'(

Will definitely post pic's... when I do it... just don't hold your breath because it will be a while! I mocked up a pair in cardboard months ago to make sure I could get suitable pillion and exhaust clearance but that's as far as I got... I'm estimating another six months to a year before I start I reckon...  :dunno_black:

Ha, no worries, I may be rich one day and buy myself a ventura rack and be like Oprah "EVERYONE in this thread gets a free ventura rack!"... and the crowd goes wild.  :icon_lol:

Hi mate, if you need pics or anything lemme know. I can only give you bag pics atm, but when I get my bike I can show you how it is on the bike?

Hey fellas,

Might be getting my bike back tomorrow or the next and I was thinking of replacing my foot pegs. I had a look at the wiki, but I can't find the pegs anywhere. Has anyone here modified their pegs?

Good news on getting the bike back, can't help on the pegs though as I'm sure they're somewhat different to the 450...
