A 100 or so miles after fixing the car with the shift solenoid relay from the parts car the car wont move in any of the gears. None what so ever.
However a few mins before the thing went kaput, putting it in reverse made it go forward.
That was followed by a breif period of driving forward anaemically before nothing was happening in any of the gear.

OK so what could be the issue here ?
Electronic again I think.

Cool.

I'm thinking its electronic ... the original issue was that relay ... maybe that was one part of the problem ...

Does it sound like it's trying to go into gear at all when you try to shift? If not, it could be the solenoid itself.

I only got panicked shreiking whenever the car did anything a bit wrong ... the wife was driving it when it happened - as always.
I think she's trying to kill it, and when it does oblige she panics ...

I will know when I retreive it and hook up the OBD contraption up etc etc.

And the "dead" transmission - which before going "dead" went forward in reverse - about 20 mins ago went into reverese when you put it in Reverse, and backed up a few feet ...

Yeah, it sounds like a malfunctioning solenoid. Any codes yet?

Its got 5 solenoids ... I will have to get it home first ... I am pretty sure its either the control module for solenoids or one of the solenoids itself.

The Lebaron I had the tranny was changed @ 105k before I got it out of a 3.3 minivan, and it naver gave me a blip of trouble.
The other cars you have had - 2 intrepids are FWD but longitudinal V6 right ? Those are famous for mechanical trouble in the tranny.
There are a few 2.7 chrysler motors that had the F4A51 mitsu tranny ... I have to find some of those in the Junkyard and yank a tranny.

Cool.

I think you're referring to the Chrysler cloud cars. The Stratus and Sebring coupe both came with the Mitsubishi 2.4L or 3.0L motors. Those would probably be your best bet. The ones that use the Chrysler motors (2.4 and 2.7) are the Stratus and Sebring sedan and Sebring convertible, and they use the Chrysler 41TE automatic.

Edit: Unless the older generations came with a Mitsubishi tranny. I just know about the second gens.

The 3.0 sebring/stratus had F4A51 tranny, except someone told me the ratio's are different in those and the computer wont accept it ...
However someone else told me last month, housing is different ... like wth ???? make up your minds tranny repair guys

I'll look into it some more when I get home. It wouldn't surprise me if they used a different bolt pattern.

That's part of the reason they're all in the junk yards. The pre-2005 2.7 had major issues with the water pump seals, which would cause the oil to sludge up and destroy the motor. The extremely tiny oil passages didn't help, either.

Oooo The guy who swears internals are different said it will bolt up 100% for sure ... That guy used gmc kimmy to chevy blazer and was some weird 4 wd to 2 wd confusion thrown in ...

The guy who said it may not bolt up said gears are the same.
