:icon_exclaim: ... better concept!!! ..  :D

.. get rid of the Diamante .... then if you really want to stick with Mister Bishi ... pickup a Mitsu GTO, Mitsu 3000GT or maybe a Mitsu EVO VIII .. !!!  :thumb:

they may still have some issues here and there... but the local performance tuner crowd would be able to all help you out  :D

No, I have 2 of em now ... I am figuring out this crap ... I mean how hard could it be ... I've seen the tranny repair shop morons ... one fool said I need a rebuild when I needed a relay ... so I think I'll get it figured out.
BTW My town has lots and lots of diamante's and very few 3000gt's. Dunno why ...

Cool.

ergo ... not many cool kids in your town!  :icon_lol:

They put the same bloody tranny in the 2.4 L4 hyundai, the 2.7 V6 hyundai santa fe, the bunch of 2.7 dodge/chryslers, the 3.0 galant and the 3.5 diamante ... I am thinking the number is the housing only, gear ratio is different - but the model number specified ratios ... so it cant be that ...

The blot thinkins ... The mind wobbles ...

cheap grey imports? ... happens around my part of the world a lot .. more and more each year ..

'funniest' thing i have seen in the last few years though... is lots of these things... Nissan Elgrande people mover ..

but the local lads have put body kits on them sometimes... sports wheels... lowered.... fuzzy dice on the mirror etc etc ... then they drive around like they are cooler than Cool McCool

i have no problem with the drivers generally .. or the cars... but you can tell they are trying to kid themselves that the Van i just as cool as the 'drift car' they used to have  ;) :D

</threadjack off>  ;)

your box though .. even though i generally have a low opinion of a wide range of mechanic shops... sometimes you find a good one... and your previous solenoid issue and replacement ... the solenoid may be just one symptom of a 'gearbox wide' problem?? ... something that usually happens to the solenoid when the box is otherwise about to have major problems? ... a 'use by date' if you like...

so replacing the solenoid may have put a temp hold on the overall issues , re: fluid flow or gear selection? .. but the rest of the internals actually are in a bad way??

however .. your other mention of computer wont accept it... have you looked into tracking down a diagnostic/tuning/flash ecu program? ... with the right cable you can hook the car computer up to a laptop and have a looksee what errors are reporting .. even if you dont change anything you can still often see that a weird/rogue signal is coming from part 'abc123' .. but not from 'xyz789' which are both part of the same path ...

personally ... to try and sort out a mechanic/gearbox dude .. find the bloke that has a big lineup of work all the time... or ask around the local tuner car owners or racers? .. everyone has their favorites i guess .. but petrolheads will only go back to someone 'because they the cheapest' once or twice... sooner or later they go to the guy that does good fixes and dont worry about cheap prices..  :thumb:

I had a damn good mechanic ... and he got deported ...
They deported the 1 non criminal honest upstanding illegal alien they could find, while 100 of others roam free ... We should do a 100 to 1 program, and I'll fill that 100 in a matter of hours.
Seriously, all the drug dealing, pot smoking, anchor baby making, gun carrying, welfare stealing, school dropping out, worthless Illegals are sitting around taking up space and oxygen ... and the ydeport the 1 guy that was working ... (not that he was paying taxes or nothing though ... hey I guess since I want illegals deported I better swallow that bitter pill in this case too huh ...)

OK so anyway the relay was replaced, I doubt its a symptom of tranny going bad ... it may be a shift solenoid that is going ... solenoids get a voltage and they retract (or extend) cos there is a coil that magnetises something ... and that makes some big mechanical item move ...

If there was short in the solenoid coil ... not only will it not move the plunger properly, it will also burn out the relay ... the relay is expecting a resistance in the coil ... make that 0 or close to 0 and the load side of the relay go kaput ...

That's the theory anyway, I see receivers with burnt out power transistors when you short the speakers ... so it can happen ...

Hey, Buddha. I just found this:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/mitsubishi-f4a51-automatic-transmission-hazard-problem/

It says that a lot of people had issues with the F4A51 tranny, and it sounds very close to the issue you're having. Just another tidbit to look into.
Blue 2004F with some fun stuff

"Deborah Diehl, PAMar 30, 08:29# 3792001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. Just bought the car for my daughter and got it inspected yesterday. She was traveling to friends 2 hrs away and she was on a major interstate when she said the RPM went sky high and then nothing. Thank goodness she was able to pull to the side of the road with out being killed. She said it went in reverse when she had it in drive. Scared her to death. This car sucks!!"
Buddha, didnt the wife/you have this very issue?

The F4A51 tranny blows up cos the wavy washer breaks off and destroys the thing ...
Obviously that doesn't happen one time and the  miraculously "un"happen ...

My wife's car did go in forward when put in reverse ...
However ... that can be a simple case of a bad shift solenoid firing ...

Today ... Just got back after a 20 min drive from her office ... its take off when stone cold (parked for 5 days in freezing cold will do that) was a bit thumpy ... then the drive - in seemed to shift downward once instead of up ... but the whole drive was pretty good ... after warming up it ran almost as it always did ...

Mine is a near certain is electrical ... Some frucked up solenoids in the valve body is my guess.

BTW The F4A51 in eclipses and galants and the early Diamante was crappier than the one in the later diamante ... they upgraded the wavy washer ...

The local pull-a-part had a beauty of a 03 VRX complete with a massive oil leak in the valve cover and steering pump etc etc ... I liberated a tranny off it and have it sitting in my truck ...
I'm thinking I'll gain expertise in the art of the transmission rebuild ... and freaking do it ... and then do a swap ...

They rae not Pieces of Sheteie ... just misunderstood ... he he ...

kinda like some odd indian posting off the wall stuff on a local  half litre moto forum Eh?my intrpids and the laboring, would hit neutral on the fly. to correct id have to shut car off and restart. which while driving was most of the time successful.  pop into neutral, keep moving, shut car off coast a few secs, then restart and put into drive.
