I am facing problem in shifting to "Neutral" on my 2001 GS. What might be the reason and remedy??

Could you go into more detail about the problem?  What symptoms are you experiencing?  Remember, the more information you provide the better we can help.

Is it just when the bike isn't warmed up or in general?  What oil are you using and is it new or dirty?  Is the chain and under the front sprocket cover clean? ...

Is it when you are stopped?

If so, all motorcycles shift better if you are moving because of the way the gears mesh and slide into position. Slip the clutch slightly and you can shift better whiles topped.

+1 on more information needed.

Also, move the bike forward or back slightly. Should pop right in.  :thumb:

You'll have to shift your weight around a move the wheels slightly before you can go up/down through the gears then.

When I first bought my 2009 GS used a few months ago (only 2678 miles on it) it did the same.  Simply cleaning/lubing the chain and riding a bit has taken care of that.

This is one of those quirks of the GS500. At the gas station, at a set of lights cause you popped into neutral. While you are sitting on the bike, slightly roll it back, or forward, while you are pulling the clutch in and pressing on the gear lever. It will pop right in  :thumb:

Also normal for the bike to give a small nudge when starting in gear.

Lots of quirks of this bike. That's why we love it  :icon_mrgreen:

Make sure the foot lever isn't loose, I tightened mine and now it is much easier.

After I changed from 10w40 oil to 15w50 oil my chearchange has become 'notchy' when cold, and harder to get neutral. Mind you I haven't got it warmed up enough -just been running up and down the driveway track - it'll be registered tomorrow -(and watch out fer a World First lads!!!)  :kiss3:  So I'll be able to test it properly then. I'm assuming that with a cool engine the clutchplates are stickier with the 50 weight, but I'm surprised that the change made a marked difference.
HNY all.

The oil effects not only first gear/neutral engagement, but all gear changes. As I went up the oil ladder - Motuol 3100, 5100, 300V - the gear changes became smoother. I'm now running Mobile 1 racing 4t (had to offer my first born as payment). Silky smooth gear changes with that. No false neutrals. Can even push the bike around in gear with the clutch pulled in. Something not possible with lesser oils.

Suzuki recommends 10w-40. Only use 15w-50 if 10w40 is not available. Clearly stated in the owner's manual. Would you tell us Why you decided to try 15w-50?

15/50 because it is a VERY well worn engine and I ride in a pretty hot climate (42 celsius recently), plus I was experimenting to see if slightly heavier oil would quieten a clattering engine noise I have at low revs. Maybe it's camshaft endfloat, -sounds like some backlash somewhere... the stethoscope is inconclusive.
