hanging RPM problem

The problem I am having is that when I start the bike with the choke on The rpm's go to 4 to 5k and once I take the choke off the revs will fall to about 3k and stay there, when i unscrew the idle adjust screw i can get it to idle at 1.5 to 2 k as its supposed to, but if i twist the throttle past 3k it will stick and stay once again. I have checked all the boots and bindings and there doesn't appear to be a vacuum leak but the float level is high on the left cylinder and low on the right, could this be the cause of the hanging RPM's? please let me know if you have experienced this problem or anything similar :dunno_black:

It's certainly best to make sure the floats are set right and the carbs synced as they can both affect the way the bike idles and performs.  Too high a float level can richen the mixture, tho opposite is for a low float level.

Also, when adjusting the idle it's best to occasionally blip the throttle as otherwise it's easy to over adjust when raising the idle or under adjust when lowering the idle.

When you had the tank up/off to do the carbs ... Did you change the tightness of the cable tie thingy that very loosely holds the cable set to that cross member?? ... I tightened mine up a while back to 'make it neater' ....
Bolted the tank back down etc and then started it.... Damn friggin sticking and high idle and messing about!!  ... Loosened the cable tie thingy and issue resolved ... It pretty sensitive under there!!

Not saying it can't be the carbs or floats or similar ... Just adding a possible easy fix in case it's same situ!  :thumb:

wd40 or something else  ( flammable) ether works too, but see if spraying around boots reveals a leak. will do so by bringing revs up
