Remote key switch/Keyless

I'm trying to move the key, or, temporarily make it keyless as an experiment. As far as the ignition wiring, Which ones do I need to get connected to each other to get the old girl running. I'm assuming it's the red, orange and gray. Just trying to figure out if I can use a 3 contact toggle switch to make this thing run, for novelty sake. If that's the case, then I should just be able to put the Red on the constant, and the Orange and Gray in the ON position...Correct?

Not overly sure on the wiring side, i'd imagine it to be relatively simple. Given that the key's function itself is the same as a lever on a switch (essentially, although giving a security feature too)

Although carrying on, i'd be interested in this with 2 slight changes, giving it a circuit to the clutch, preventing a start in gear. The second would be a keyless remote to turn on and start.

Using a mount for the remote would mean you'd remove any way to start it (provided you wired it well and hid everything) without the remote, you'd need a backup somehow if there were issues though.

You'd need clutch switch to be active though, last thing you need is it jerking off it's stand.

Its easy enough to do.
When the key switch is in the on position the red connects to the orange and the grey connects to the brown.
Any double pole single throw (DPST) switch will do

yup its a simple 2 positionswitch. an on/off switch. id not go keyless tho. one could find it. if you went keyless rig 2 switches so no matter what, if a thief finds both hed ( or shed) always be turning one off

Your best friend is the wiring diagram. Shows what connects to what depending on key position and is color coded so super easy to follow.

I actually just pulled it out to see ho the turn signals etc are wired (installing LEDs) so here's the info for the ignition switch:
Off and Lock -- No connect
Park -- R to Br
On -- R to O and Gr to Br
Note: both O and Gr connect to O on the wiring harness
          R = Fused 12V
          O = Switched 12V
          Br = Parking/Running light (Tail light and position light in headlamp assembly)

Thanks guys. Yeah I have the wiring diagram sitting in the bike. Needed it when I modified the harness anyway. Been very handy with all my projects so far. But, everything is back together and working fine. I wasn't going to do anything permanent right now. I removed the back of the ignition and am just going to jumper the wires to a switch for now. It will be a hidden switch for sure so that's not a concern. I just couldn't figure out if I was jumping all 4 or just 3.

I'm not doing a remote or anything. It's just with all the adjustments I did up front with the HID install and harness move, the ignition switch needs to move. Might as well try no key!  :icon_mrgreen:
