Staking my claim to have the first Historic Registered GS500 in the World  :flipoff:
She turned 25 on Jan 1st... rushed in to the rego office first opportunity to get the red plate.
Aha, now at last after the resto I can ride her (legally).
Any challengers?

Are there restrictions on how much you can ride it?

Here in WV a 25 yr old vehicle can be registered as a classic or an antique.  The distinction is that classics are allowed to be used for general transportation, while antiques plates are for vehicles owned solely as a collector's item.  The vehicles with antique plates are only allowed to be used for exhibition/parades or recreational use on the weekend.

Pah!... teach me to be so cocky won't it!!!  :dunno_white:
Just had a local 50k run on it and it came back limping. -Serious loss of power, felt like fuel starvation, but fuel is getting to the carbs ok.
Just did the alternator test which is ok at around 70v between the 3 wires, but I'm getting only 12v across the battery terminals at around 4000rpm (it's a new battery BTW).
Tested the voltage reg and can't get any sensible resistance readings out of it, but my meter only goes down to 200ohms.
Reckon I'm up for a new voltage reg? Or is it just that my meter doesn't have the correct range?
Are all GS500 voltage regs interchangeable?

(Bugger! - I was ready to head out for the wild blue yonder)

Radodrill, In Victoria OZ, if the vehicle is over 25 years old we can register it through an approved club (VJMC in my case), and for $69 get 45 days riding per year (you can pay more to get more days). Normal full registration costs about $550 so 'Historic/Club reg is a big saving. Just have to sign off a little logbook each time you ride.

Ah OK.

I was slightly misinformed earlier; Over here a vehicle 25+ yrs old can get an Antique plate, which is classed either for restricted or general use.  If you have an original plate issued the year the car was made, you can request to use that plate; but if registered for general use you need to affix a current year registration sticker.
The restricted use is $2/yr (renewed on a 10 yr cycle) and is valid only on weekends and for special events or club activities (and to go to the shop for service).
The general use is $30/yr (renewed for 1 or 2 yrs) and has the same privileges as a regular plate.

Are you sure about that as we no longer have rego stickers (Or is that just a NSW thing?)?

I had just looked it up on the DMV (Devision of Motor Vehicles) website; restricted antique plates have no sticker, while general transportation antique plates do.

Dude, I think Radodrill is U.S. -So it'll all be quite different, (In Vic we still have rego stickers).
Now, any ideas how to check a Voltage regulator with a meter that only reads down to 200ohms?
