Hi all,

I have a 2007 gs500f and I need to replace the bulb behind the speedo, my gs is my only mode of transport so I cant afford to have it out of action for to long.

In saying that, I think I know how to change the bulb but I dont know what type the bulb is so I can get replacement for it before I pull it all apart.

If anyone knows what type of bulb it is, that would be great. (im hoping its a T10 bulb as I already have some of them)

Any tips is also greatly appreciated

Thanks

if in doubt, go flat out

Go LED. T-10 wedge base works fine.
These work nice, as the side pointing LEDs will illuminate the whole thing.

(We keep a supply of these in the Bike Cave in assorted colors. When anyone comes with a burnt bulb or we have to remove the gauges for work, we automatically swap out all indicator lamps and put in LEDs.)

Or this one. But you have to wiggle a little to get it in.

The way the gauges work is there is a metal shield in there that limits the height of a bulb. That shield prevents the bulb from shining directly at the dial which would create a hot/bright spot. It deflects light around inside so the white plastic back smooths out the light for even illumination.

A single forward LED would work, but half the light would be lost on the metal deflector. That's why one with some side firing LEDs works better as they point out at the white plastic.

You might find ones cheaper, but don't get over sized ones or ones any taller than the T-10 incandescent lamp as they will hit the metal piece inside.

For the 4 indicator lamps, use these as they are a T-5 size:

You WILL have to do the dual diode mod for the turn signal, or leave the turn signal as incandescent. Most important to change the blue high beam to LED as it is on so much, it heats up the blue cap and they do fall out. You can't buy a blue cap.
Get the same color LED as the indicator cap - it makes for a better illumination and color.

You might find them cheaper elsewhere. All LEDs are not the same. Same size can have different brightness, just as the same size incandescent bulb can have different wattages for different brightness.

Thanks ill have a look into them, I changed the bulbs with blue LEDs they look great

if in doubt, go flat out
