Sorry to hear about your accident, glad to hear you are ok. Good luck with getting the driver to pay and getting back on the road.

mister

They hit you from behind and there is no damage there, but the front is damaged. Enough to wreck a wheel and rotor but not bend a fork? How does that happen?

Yup. Had my first accident. Was stopped at a roundabout waiting for an opening and was slammed into from behind at about 40-45kph.
Cheers.

If this really was the case ie 30mph from behind you wouldn't have been riding it home  :dunno_black:

Unless the back tyre was overinflated and the vehicle `bounced off`  :D :D :D

Ok. Only a quick look over by the mech, full quote coming. Nose faring, front rotor, front wheel, muffler, brake lever and bar end. No obvious rear end/frame damage. Still gonna be classed as a write off by insurance prob, so gonna Sit down with the driver and discuss options. Im happy to cheap out on somethings and replace myself but some things I want factory.

You should also be compensated for damage to your helmet, jacket, etc - if any.

Thanks for the responses guys. Front wheel and rotor scraped on the road.

So far the driver is being very cooperative with the whole thing and is very sympathetic. Im going by her story in the speed I honestly have no idea as I didnt even see her aproaching.

She's filing an insurance claim for her car and probably my bike by the sounds of things as there is quite a bit of damage to her front bumper.

Any idea what sort of payout we get for a wrecked 09 gs500f?

Normally, in Aust, you file your insurance and They claim against her insurance. In which case, you need her insurance details.

What you would get paid out is dependent on what Market Value the insurance company has. Only your insurance company can answer that.

Sorry about the idiot hitting you.

It's reminded me that I must keep in first whenever stopped and monitor my mirrors to avoid such unpleasant meetings with more idiots!!

You think Pyrrhic victory is bad you should try Pyrrhic defeat!

It was nowhere near that speed, it couldn't have been. A 30mph impact has the same force as hitting the ground from 3 storeys up!!

The rear tyre would have unseated or burst and the wheel at the very least buckled, maybe even shattered and there would be extensive frame and suspension damage to the back half.

The rider would have whiplash so bad he couldn't walk for a week,

Every sympathy and I am glad you are ok but something is being exaggerated somewhere  :D

1st off I'm glad you're ok. Guys get off the speed thing, you're hung up on that. Fact is bud you messed up not getting the police involved but it seems to be working oit for you in that you were hit by a honest person who can admit she messed up and then handle her responsibilities. The insurance company will tell you what they'll give you and as long as it's fair market value take it, if not threaten to get a lawyer. Most of the time they'll up it a bit more to avoid litigation. Good luck to you and thank God you're safe.

I would think that the 30MPH speed would be what she was doing before she hit the brakes.  I saw a person hit by a car at a similar speed and the person did not have a good day at all.  As for the insurance payout and such all you can do is have a little faith in the human race that they will do the right thing.  We are all happy you made it out ok and get back on the road as soon as you can.
