My 93 GS fuel tank is rusted, so I'm looking to replace it with a new one. What model year tanks are compatible with 93?

Not just compatible with the frame, but also mounts for cap and chicken.

There is a wide range of prices for different model years and colors.  Also I ordered my year and color (33J black) from MR Cycles and they reported back that Suz does not make it anymore, so I'm thinking of trying a newer year.  I'll gladly go with another color if necessary.

Patched it. It leaked in another spot.  I give up on the old one.

Thanks

Welcome!

Any year up to '00 will work with your bike.

+1.  According to the GS500 FAQ , the tanks from '89-'00 are the same at 4.5 US Gal, including reserve (4.0 on the Californian model).  The 2001+ are 5.3 gal (5.0 gal. Cal. model).

Like you say, you can buy another color and always paint it or something  :thumb:

Welcome JY! If you are anywhere near South Carolina, I'll do doing a POR 15 job on a tank. You are welcome to sit in on the session.

A new tank will do the job right, but you will need new graphics to match -- if that is important to you -- and those can be confusing to order also.

The tank sealer is way cheaper, but much effort to do and get a good job.

STARWALT -- how can we go about ordering stock replacement stickers?  have you found a way?
I was gonna try a custom vinyl shop, but would prefer stock stickers.

maybe a new thread is in order. :dunno_white:

Thanks for your helpful replys. I will enjoy considering the options.

I'm not worried about decals.  I bought the machine 3 years ago and it had no left tank decal (must have gone away when a previous owner "dropped" it).

will a 500F tank fit on a 500E bike?  Are the mounting brackets the same?  has anyone tried this?

The Buddha

Ben2Go has done it, they do fit, the points you have to cover are related to the other parts of the bike, not the tank itself.
Cool.
