OK, so some of you may have been on Chinabay before and have looked up some new parts for the gs500. Well Ive purchased some of the parts ( even though my pics arnt great) And Im going to try and do a little review/ over sight For you all to know what you can expect.  Pics are below

I guess the first thing Ill review are these ebay clip ons. The size you will need for the gs500 is the 37mm size. And yes they should come as a 7/8s size bar. For all the review I read on them they really arnt ad quality for the 45 dollars I paid for them. To install them you will either need to raise or lower the forks ( depending on how aggressive you want your stance). The 37mm doesn't quite seem like it will fit ( the ends my take a bit of prying with a screwdriver) but eventually it will. The hardest part about it all is getting them to tighten down once you have them in place since where they tight on the bike is hard to access if you go lower on the forks. You may also have some trouble with some of your cables/ brake lines since youve lowered the position. But all in all I felt they are worth the buy.

The second thing Ill review are these "Universal" headlight fork mounts.  These things are a pain in the but. 1. They come with a bunch of diff sizes so make sure you get the right one (Bigger appears to have been better). 2. If you buy the size that has the 37mm, the first think you need to do when you get them is go to the hardware store and buy a longer bolt and a nut to go with it for eachset, the 37 mm size doesnt wrap round the fork right and the hardware they supply comes no where close to what you need. I think I went with 1"1/2 bolt to make the gap and make it all fit. It takes a lot of aligning, I havent gotten to ride with them supporting the headlight yet but I cant complain for now.

The bar ends are that bad and I managed to score them for 12 bucks when i normally find them for 27. They are made of metal and are very very sturdy from what I can feel and alot higher quality than what I was expecting. The machine work is fairly decent on the majority of it. If you get the clip ons I showed above you wont be able to fit the bar ends into it. Youll prob have to take a knife and whittle down the rubber just a bit to get it to fit in properly. But these are what I was happiest with.

Last but not least these wonderful ebay blinkers. These blinkers are crap. I paid 8 bucks for a set of 4 ( shouldnt have expected better). But just holding these blinkers you feel like youre going to break them. They are pretty much made out of the same plastic as an easter egg. its a simple two wire system with a crappy bulb in it and 2 screws where everything is glued together. For some reason I was going for something sturdy, maybe even metal but not. Theyll prob brake if you drop them. The screw on the end is impossibly short and makes mounting places difficult. they couldnt support the headlight through the mounting bracket as I had planned. Theyre very low quality, but if your in a bind and dont mind em for the price then hey go for em.

IF you have any questions feel free to ask!

I have bar end mirror too, but the Napoleons type... the goods: they look very Vintage, the bads: f#cking vibrations, going up 140km/h it's impossible to see.

More pics?

Good job!  :thumb:

Theyre not the best pics in the world cause Im still fidling right now. I mainly take them so when I go home I can still think and twist ideas of it in my head. But here are some of everything after Ive installed the parts and lowered the front end. (Its still a work in progress, especially the rear end with r6 light). The reason theyre not on all the way is so I can take em off easier for now, but you get the general idea.

And my new master cylinder came in! First glance is its pretty decent quality for what I paid, comes with the braided brake hose. The top Cylinder has a metal cap ( which surprised me), and there are a few screws/ bolts which need tighten before I ride. But Ill be sure to let you all know how it does!

Always wanted to do something with the master cylinder on my GS, but didnt trust the ebay ones one bit. Make sure you do everything carefully. You gunna do anything with the gauge cluster? Haha
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

You have to drill a tiny hole in the back of the mirror...like 1/8" or 3mm...and use a tiny alan key to pop the mirror glass out.  Once you get the glass out you can get to the screws holding the mirror body to the arm.  Take these screws out and reinstall them with loctite or a similar thread locker.

You got a link to where you found that?

Also has set ups for the left if youre needing a hydraulic system for another bike. You can get a new right front master cylinder and left clutch system as a set for 35 bucks. Which is kinda a score in my book :)

Yeah both front and rear only have 15 miles on them  as does the entire bike since its been in my hands. :P. I had to pretty much redo the entire bike from the ground up this summer which is why i have no money haha

Yeah Im going to be real careful on how I do everything. If I didnt trust it though I wouldnt keep it on the bike. It also comes with the rear brake toggle switch on the bottom of the set up Which I was surprised about so thats a plus  :woohoo:  And as far as the tach cluster, Well its pretty busted as you can see. That happened like ten years ago I think.. least thats the last time this thing fully resembled a bike before I got my hands on it. Im hoping to either modify that one with a new mounting set up/ indicator leds or to just buy more wonderful ebay stuff and get a smaller aftermarket tach/ speedo and drop it down so its more nestled in with the headlight.

My oh my have I got a review for you all.  :icon_rolleyes: Well where to begin. If any of you all buy this system theres a few things you should be aware of. With my master cylinder the actual lever was very loose and wobbly ( hopefully Ill have a video up soon) which led to alot of play in the lever which you can seem to get rid of. I may end up switching it out with the previous lever I had on my other master cylinder. Im also doing this because it seems like the new lever doesnt force enough fluid through as it should. Maybe I still have some bleeding to do. But it seemed like I had to pull the lever all the way back before they would engage. Im def going to look into this and see if I can find a solution. Also. When installing this. You have to use their banjo bolt to the master cylinder, but if you can USE YOUR ORIGINAL WASHERS. Theirs are big and bulkey and affect fluid flow even more.  Next, KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL BRAKE LIGHT RELAY. The one they provide is udder crap and has already broken on me/ fried. The switch now disengages  backwards if that makes sense. So swap out theirs for the one you have. Im not sure if its the relay its self, maybe reversed wiring on the relay on my part, or perhaps my r6 taillight drawing too much power but I think it blew my fuse. There was a loud pop and then smoke. Cause now Nothing comes on when the bike is on. So if the pic I post below is the fuse Or culprit I need to replace then please tell me.  Ill also be posting up some pics of the bike now after the mods ( even tho it still has a way to go so you can see)

These are just a few pics of the bike with the mods,  showing you how low the front sits now, what the front looks like with all the mods,  what my riding stance is after the clip ons, and the rear blinkers plus r6 tail light. The videos are currently uploading to Youtube and I should have some clips of the blinkers and the lever problem here for you all shortly :)

OK, so these are my videos for today of the wobble with the master cylinder and the video showing you all how the blinkers are. I blew my fuse right after I shot the blinker vid.  :technical:

The play in the lever is due to the bolt being too small diameter for the lever or the hole in the lever is too large. Either way it is sloppy machining, unfortunately. If itis the bolt that is wrong, changing the lever won't help but worth trying a different lever.

One reason I go with expensive levers from highly rated companies is everything is machined to exacting tight tolerances. Not everyone can afford or justify the $85-$125 cost per lever for ASV, LSL or other brands.

aaronmact

Im deff going to keep upgrading to better and more expensive parts when I have the money. But as of right now I left college to join the navy. So until then I dont really have much income and when I do it goes to pay off stupid loans -.- But I figured for 20 bucks its was worth a shot. They deff sell better quailty ones with diff levers and set ups for around fifty. But Im going to put up with the one I have for now.

adidasguy

You might be able to swap bolts or shim it with a thin bushing to reduce the flopping.
For $20 not bad at all.

aaronmact

Yeah I was thinking a small bushing or maybe even a washer to try and stop the wobbling

radodrill

I see the turn signals are hyperflashing; you might want to wire in a resistor or replace the flasher relay with an LED compatible one.

Just curious what your guys' thoughts are -- since a turn signal is supposed to be an attention getting device, wouldn't it be beneficial to make it as bright (within reason) and fast-flashing as legally possible?

IIRC 2 flashes per second is the max. Has anyone ever been pulled over for something higher though?
