I bought my first bike and am going to convert it to a naked bike. I really dont even know where to start im going to be taking it apart here in a few day i dont know where to order the headlight assembly though any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Also considering doing pod filters a jet kit and jardine full exhaust any opinions on that would also be greatly appreciated. 2006 GS500F

The Buddha

The usual headlight used is the 89-02 one. The headlight ears and carriers too off the 89-00 ...
Dont buy new, though a lot of naked conversions have been done over the last 10 years, I cant help but think at this point there are still 89-02's headlight parts going for fairly cheap.

Cool.

I posted a question if the second halo light you linked to was DOT approved.

robfriedenberger

haha I'm doubtful if any on amazon are DOT approved. Around Pittsburgh area most of the time you can get away with out the DOT approval.

cyamaura

let me know how that mounts up if it looks good ill prolly just order those instead of finding a used one...

BockinBboy

Looks like the seller replied to that question regarding DOT approval on the Halo headlight... It is NOT DOT approved... just as an FYI, to make your own informed decision.

well i took everything off of mt bike also ordered the same headlight from amazon ill take some pics when im done also... Any idead on moving the horn it kinda sticks out...

cyamaura

I also ordered bar cap mirrors and smoked black fork mounted signals. After i get that all put on ive decided i want to do the exhaust new air filters and jet kit any reccomendation of where to order the air filters or which are filters i should choose im getting the jardine pipe and the local bike shop will be putting the jet kit on and tuning it..

The Buddha

Oh no, you got a dj kit instead of a buddha jet pack ... DJ is gobbledy gook and well I wont say hard to tune, but its adds a unneccesary complexity to what is really simple arithmetic. Line 132.5 is bigger than 130 ... ah ha ... OK. Not with DJ crap vs original.
You can do yourself a lot easier with Buddha numbers and not DJ kit.

He means the DynoJet brand jet kits.  It's soooo much easier to just get original Mikuni jets so you know how much bigger they are vs stock and can easily compare numbers between bikes with different intake/exhaust configurations; then it's possible to estimate what jets you need given your bike's setup.  The Buddha will sell you a kit with the jet sizes and washers he'd recommend based on your bike configuration.

My bike shop had all the jets in stock; so that made things easy for me ;)

I still need new signals, I'm just going to stick with the stock signals until they break or until some one buys some for me lol!
If you ordered the same headlight as I did you will need bolts to mount it. I just went to the local hardware store and picked up some. I think they are 10x1.25 but check it out for your self. The horn i think I'm going to mount it under or above the oil cooler Ill post some pics when I decide what I want to do
