Bike not idling a 4k with full choke until I blip the throttle

Hi All,
It's still cold here but I decided to fire up my GS and give it a once over since I was bored on the weekend. Everything seems okay except for the Choke.
I set the bike to full choke, fire it up and it idles at roughly 2k rpm. It will climb slowly to 3k and then sit there. If I blip the throttle it will then climb to 4k and stay there. Is this expected with this bike, or should it climb to 4k on it's own?

Thanks!

Depending on how cold it is, some times when I ride mine when it's less than 20F I wait up to 3 or 4 minutes until I ride. Depending on where you live you maybe running a winter blend gas which can effect performance. I never really timed my warm up but once it hits 4k I just ride.

It's running shell 91 which isn't a special winter fuel up here. I started it and let it idle for a while today. It's not getting up to 4k until I blip the throttle.
Anyone have any other ideas?

What is your idle speed when fully warmed up? I mean, after at LEAST half an hour of riding at these cold temps.
I set it to 1500 rpm until some nice warm weather comes back... Maybe that would help?

Ride it like a 2 stroke:
1: Rev high
2: Add oil
3: Repeat

Hmm... a little gunk in the pilot jet(s) maybe?... perhaps a dirty air filter? ... Possibly float height a tinge low?  ... Maybe just needs new spark plugs... Maybe exhaust valves getting tight?... Seems you already touched on crappy gas possibility...

Some of these are more of a stretch than others, but I do think the air filter, spark plugs, and float height are all worth checking out because of how quick and easy they are to do... and if spark plugs haven't been changed in the last year or two, go ahead and replace them, you will be excited by the difference new plugs can make anyway.

I think it idles around 1200 or so. Not too keen on upping the idle, it seems that the issue still exists even when it's a bit warmer out.

I'll have to wait until the weather warms up before I can check anything, it's about -20C here now, i dont think the bike would idle correctly regardless of it's condition.
I'll give the bike a good once over when the weather warms up and report back my findings. Probably get a video of a cold start to post.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yep, same temps here... Feeling every bit of that -20F.  Luckily I have a garage to work inside for myself; still cold, but at least no wind and a tiny heater makes it bearable.  I started up my bike when it hit +30 F last week.  Took a few tries after having been so cold, even with keeping battery inside the house. But I felt it was probably good to run her before temps dropped again this week. I shudder to think how she would have started had I tried this week.
