adidasguy, i've been meaning to ask for a long time, do you sharpen your pictures or something before you upload them?
Start with good camera - like Sony X-100 which is about 3500x5500 pixels. A little gamma adjustment. A slight sharpening then reduce to 900 or 1000 pixels widest dimension. Usually no sharpening when reduced. If Photoshop, then sometimes a slight unsharp mask. Sometimes I use Photoshop. Usually I'm lazy and do it in ThumbsPlus.
TP does not smooth and dither as well as PS when reducing. That might account for the sharpness of some pictures.

Below the first was reduced with PS and the 2nd with TP. You see PS does a better job.

That explains it. I've always noticed some aliasing in your pics and didn't know whether it was your host or something from the process.

GS500:
Craigslisted with nostalgia. Man that was an awesome bike. Once I finish up the CX and get it sold, I think I know what's next in my future...
What? Build you a new one? At the only operating plant that makes GS500's in West Seattle?

I think that's going to have to be the plan. Wait till you see this CX though, it may not be fast, but it will sure be cool.
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Picked up my muffler that now has a bracket for the center stand stopper :D

Currently in the process of applying the VHT header paint; will have to bake that tomorrow.

Jmill, I have a couple of CXs, - an '80 and an '82 Eurosport, and powerwise they're pretty similar to my GS, (which is running pretty sweetly now) -very little difference in performance. Problem with the CX is that it's quite a lot heavier, (also the fact that it's butt-ugly!!!) - but I reckon it's 4-valve head is it's advantage over our GS 2-valve head.
The GS feels so light and 'chuckable' in comparison though- loves a winding road. And I love it's simplicity.

I think I've solved my charging problem by fitting another alternator rotor (the old one was a right *astard to remove). The starter clutch was stuffed and clattering against the back of the rotor. I'm now getting a consistent 13.5 - 14volts at the battery with the pilot lights running, at highway speeds (5000-6000rpm) and around town. Now I need to test it with headlights on.

Heading down for the Island Classics at Philip Island tomorrow. Wish you (all) were here!

so got the new tyres today

pirelli diablo rosso 2's front and rear 110/70 and 140/70, spent all mid day scrubbing them in and holy shaZam! they hang on I can actually feel confident getting the bike over, with the old bt45's because they were worn flat across the middle you could feel the bike tip over the edge, was getting a bit squirrely, all in all amazing tyres

this pic was taken as I got back from the tyre shop

now to work on the jetting and exhaust, then springs and all will be finished

HUHSKY was a little wobbly. Thought it was the front tire or steering stem too tight. Found the rear tire had no air. I will have to monitor it. Maybe the new tire (tyre for those that spell weird) didn't seat. I'll monitor it. Now HUHSKY rides just fine again.

Going to the store tonight to get some sushi for Stitch Kitty ---> WEIRD! some a-hole in front of me kept slowing down and stopping in the middle of the block. I kept my cool. Then in the middle of the block he stopped and flipped me off. WTF? Was this just a bike hater or a Huskies hater? I don't know. Immediately I turned off and took a side route to the store. Never had that happen before.

Called up the local tyre place and they told me $250 special for the set.

PLUS, I have taken out my old rear brake pads as they were worn down and accidentally pressed the brake so now I cannot move the pistons (Its on the wheel and I tried  taking the cap of the rear res under the seat.

Slip a flat screwdriver in there then twist it and it will pry the pads apart. We do that all the time when this happens or just to get more clearance for anew wheel to go on. Even if you take the pads out,you still have to get the brake opened up to get the tire back in and the pads.

Will that ruin the disc?

No - be gentile and apply slow, even pressure and you will spread apart the pads & compress the pistons.
Pretty much anything can be used to open up the caliper. Just go slow and easy - they don't want to spread apart very fast. You have to do that anyway, after putting on new pads or brake rotor. Pretty much spread to the max when putting on or off the front wheel.

What? ... you want they should change religions before doing brake work now?... oy  vey! ;)

If you want to just press the pistons back in I would pull that caliper off to do it by taking the 2 bolts out holding the caliper to the bracket that mounts to the axle and the one holding it to the brake brace bar.  Takes only a few minutes.  The you can put the pads in against the pistons with the lining towards the pistons and pry between the steel backing plates with no harm to anything.  No need to remove the hydraulic line from the caliper, I never do.

I've been popping the pistons out in recent years to clean them up good with those green kitchen pads ever since I had a couple lock up when they were pushed back in with a little crud left on them.  Probably due mostly to my splashing thru salt water winters here in N E Ohio.

Finally taking Addy's oft given advice I did it the easy way last year.  Bought two calipers on ebay that were from an 09 with only 2-3k miles on them and they were like new with pads like new in them.  Cost $28 each($15+13 shipping).  My old calipers were crap after 100k miles of abuse.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
