Is there a stand alone ignition for the gs500 like Dyna makes for the vtwin ? I'm not use to working on imports... I'm currently trying to eliminate the computer all together. If any one knows of a post on here or of a company that makes a stand alone ignition for the gs500 please let me know.

any information is appreciated :)
Thanks.

Not completely sure what you are referring to. There is no computer...just a couple relays and a switch. What year bike do you have? Last I knew, there never was a version of the GS with any type of computer control system.

The ignition module on the 03+ (04+ in the US) GS500 does indeed have a microprocessor to adjust the timing based on RPM and throttle position, but it is a pretty dumb system. Even the older models had a step change in the timing advance at 4K RPM, but not exactly sure how that worked; and the newer module is only slightly smarter.

Newer fuel injected bikes have significantly more complicated computer controls that are tune-able in software.

Fair enough, I was unaware. Good to know!

For reference I am looking to eliminate this.

I have gotten rid of almost all of the electronics. No kick stand interlock, no neutral switch interlock, no speedo/tack...etc. I want to run 12v to the igniton module...I don't care if I have to buy an aftermarket ignition

Maybe you could modify it to take a set of points. I really miss cleaning adjusting and replacing them, ah! the good old days.......
