I bought my bike used so I'm going to do a complete cleaning and painting. So far I've removed the fairings carburetor and cleaned the chain. I have a problem where I want to do everything at once lol. I'll keep posting pics if anyone is interested or has any advice.

ron freeman

Do go cheap when replacing parts. It'll save you additional money and time to go ahead and use good parts. That way you only have to do kt once. Good luck and ride smart.  :)

Golly

Do or don't go cheap....I try to go oem in most

I rode the bike to work today! Woot woot. Carb cleaning was a success and the paint looks awesome in person. I'm changing the oil next chance I get. Any recommendations on spark plugs?

adidasguy

Not sure which is before or after. But I really like the white.
Everyone paints their bike black.

The bike was white before and I really liked it but the paint was going bad due to lack of tlc. I was thinking of maybe going over it and doing a black and white design. For now I'm glad I can ride it safely lol, the throttle was jumping on me before the carb clean.

Please do something to dress her up - for the sake of the bike.

(time for some ranting...)

So many bikes Ive seen that...
1. Put bike in sealed room
2. Put in 7 cans of black rattle can
3. Set off bomb
4. Take out bike now covered in flat black rattle can

Only 2 I have seen in West Seattle that were repainted and NOT rattle can black. jmill did white and my HUHSKY. Gorilla is painting his non-black but haven't seen it yet. Everyone else that painted the bike because it needed paint did the easy rattle can flat black.

In fact, going to BackfireMoto here, lots of people do that. Seems the easy way out. Few people take the time to make their bike look nice.

At least if they put a clear coat on it and maybe a logo or a stripe it would be fine.

I spent way more time putting the bike back together after cleaning the carbs then actually painting it. I have a black Mustang with a red stripe so I I'm going for the same color scheme as the car, I'm definitely going to hit it with some red the next chance I get. I'm not sure how this forum completely works sooo if this thread doesn't get deleted I'll be updating with pics. Thanks for the advice.

adidasguy

Threads stay forever.

Looking forward to pix with some new detailing on the bike.

In case you're unsure about clear coats, the best in a can is SprayMax 2k Clear. It is a 2 part urethane that is fuel proof.

now Addy .. you being color-ist!! .. or in this case .. tone-ist! ...  ;)

flat black isnt the prettiest or most original ... but its at least a clean coat!?

plus .. EVERYONE knows... you do flat black.... which is the 'new black' of the high end vehicles it seems lately... you immediately look like this to everyone that watches you ride by!!

which is just badass!!  :icon_twisted:

however ... as you say ... dress it up.... case/s in point...

little highlight details .. or full on design kits ... can make flat black ... so much BLACKER  :icon_mrgreen:

adidasguy

All those pictures are not plain black: all have SOME color or detailing. So that's OK.
I'm commenting that simply dipping your bike in a tub of black paint .... well..... you need to do more.

radodrill

Not to mention that a spray gun provides substantially better results than a rattle can ever can.  Although, a professional painter can often get better results with a can than a n00b could with a gun.
