On the bikebandit site I went to buy a new carb assembly and one has the abbreviation "lh". I don't know what that means and there are 2 different assemblies. 1 has the lh abbreviation and one doesn't. One also costs $8 more than the other. Which one is the right one so that I will get a whole New set of carbs. Thanks in advance.

The LH stands for Left Hand; the other is the right hand.  Essentially you need both plus some additional pieces to make the complete carb set.

Buy a used set and have them professionally cleaned.
PJ Motorsports is $75 a set plus parts.
They've done 3 for me. Saves a ton of time and stress since I have other things I'd rather work on. Just sent them 2 more sets. I still have a few sets on the shelf and will probably throw some in the unltrasonic cleaner and do a set myself when there is no Family Guy or Sponge Bob to watch.
Now that we have a stand alone motor for testing, it is easy to pop on a set of carbs and play with them. (I added a muffler to the minimalist's GS500)

I doubt anyone except a lottery winner could afford new replacement parts to make a set of carbs.

adidas is right;for the carbs it's cheaper to buy a used set and clean/rebuild it rather than buying the parts to build a set from scratch.

Only one has lh there is no rh and in the picture what Is 2-1 and 2-3 and why do the cost more. And I have people and tax refund money helping me so money kinda isn't the issue. My only issue is making sure I don't buy the wrong parts and not buying duplicate parts

There is a used set on eBay. I just need to know if 1989 gs500e carbs will fit my 1997 GS500e

if a part description number has the format #-#, then the first is the number in the schematic and the second is the variant; e.g. for the frame cover (tail plastics) on the 1997, 1-1 is the right plastic in blue while 1-2 is the right plastic in black.

in the case of the carbs; 1-X is the left carb assembly and 2-X is the right carb assembly; It does not look like they offer the entire set as a single assembly.

Do you know of anyone selling a set that won't cost an arm and a leg. Maybe just a arm. Someone that can ship them?

89-00 carbs the same.

2001-2002 are 3 jet
2004+ are also 3 jet with added emissions and stuff that goes to the 2004+ ignition unit to control timing.

Carb boots are different: 89-00 is one side.  2004+ different. That is, diameter of air box boots and the depth  ofthe header boots. For the headers, all fit on 89-00 bots where 89-00 will not fit the 2001+ carb header boots.

If done correctly, you can use newer carbs on an older motor (just don't connect the emissions crap and deal with a slightly different throttle cable length)

I found these on eBay but I'm kinda hesitant to buy them

The big question is what's wrong with your carbs that you want to replace them?

previous owner stripped both slow jets so they can't be taken out and cleaned and its really slowing down warm up time, and kills throttle. And I really wanted a fresh start for the new riding season. I honestly wanted to replace everything that needs replacing because I made the mistake of not doing that last year because I didn't have the money.

I also have a vacuum leak that the wd-40 method can't find

My carbs are also the reason my Gs can't pass inspection

I'm just going to keep the ones I have and figure out what can be done to fix them
