Yet another issue. Fork needing rebuild but...

So I was attempting to drain my forks and found out the drain plugs are stripped. I ended up taking them off and draining upside down but the seal is leaking after I test rode it. any suggestions on getting the drain plugs out or jus get new forks?
Also I tried adjusting the mono shock and its not turning. I sprayed it with lube and let it sit and still nothing.
any suggestions on that one aswell?

For the shock - keep in mind it will only go one direction, and you must adjust up through all the positions even if you want to go one down.  It can be tough with the clearance in there, even more so if its at the higher stiffness like 6-7.  Pay attention to the angle so that you are moving the tool in line with the direction it wants to turn, the shock is at an angle so its not exactly a horizontal motion.  It may be helpful to add a small bar to the handle length of the adjuster tool to give you more leverage, just have to work with the angle and position.  Hope this helps.

sweet got the mono to adjust thanx  :cheers: , still having issues with the fork drain plugs though  :2guns: . any idea what to do  :dunno_black:

Got an impact gun? Might be able to break them loose from the inside with the 5/8 fork tool. Just apply pressure from below and give it two three hits with the impact gun, should do it

Forks are one of the few things left on my bike I haven't completely gone through - I swapped springs and oil, but didn't take them all the way off - just pumped out the oil.  However, I do know that the newer forks are notably harder to disassemble than the older forks, and a few members have posted some of their methods.  Adidasguy has probably done the most forks recently - he would be a good one to ask once he returns from his birthday trip.

1) yes, dont shoot yourself in the face with the spring, keep your hand on the fork cap
2) just keep in mind the legs are aluminum, so don't torque the living hell out of the drain bolt, nice and snug, like the oil drain plug on your engine
3) make sure you replace the copper washer on the drain bolt once you get it out (autostore, couple bucks for a bunch)
4) i needed new dust cover, seals and the circlip / snap ring, make sure you got everything you need to complete the job, especially a new drain bolt
5) lay out all parts in order they came out or print the parts diagram from your favorite online parts suppliers website


i have to say these 92 forks i just re-did where a breeze compared to other old bikes

just watch the tutorial on youtube from baltimoreGS, its worth gold for this job

any internals you break you can easily find online for cheap. just a pain to wait for them  :cheers:
