No worries, that's what this threads for Solor!

$1800 for an 89 at the end of the riding season is a bit pricey.. I'd wait him a couple more months into the winter and low ball him! haha I'm the buyer that all sellers(including me) hate :icon_lol:

Project 1992 gs500 for $300.

Looks like bad con rod, which means....new engine. Ask me how I know? ;)

Clean title makes it worth it if the rest is decent. Titled frames go for $150-$350. Untitled frames $50 at most.
I don't have room for any more projects right now.

NikonAndy

He said "theft-recovery bought at auction", so I suspect it may have title issues, but who knows.

Of course, right after I post a new topic for a craigslist find, I see that there's a thread dedicated to them.

Any ideas on this one? It is not too far, in case it is worth getting it.

Looks like it's been a 'track bike' ... Which is not a bad thing.... But unless he has them you gonna need lights and indicators etc ....

Also ... No fire from coil .... Problematic but usually fixable.... Having the engine crank by battery power  would be good though!! ... Make sure it's not a deadun ..... "No you can't try to crank it cos it won't start cos the coil has no fire!" ... Would be a deal breaker for sure.... No SPARK in the coil is one thing... But if seller is trying to hide a seized motor or rooted up bottom end... That's another...

It does look a tad unfinished for a track bike.... Wonder what happened with the OEM rear fairings?

Janxy speaks true words of wisdom.

I would just avoid that one unless you want a track bike. In reality it probably needs a new motor cause he fried a bearing or a rod pushing the little twin to hard at the track. Would be a cool a$$ track bike though. Nice track fairings too if he already got them fitted. But if you want a street legal GS just wait a little bit and you will find one that needs some work, but is in better shape than that bike.
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Usually, I don't even bother clicking when there's no pics, but may be a good'un for a project.

Depends on how negotiable "negotiable" is, but I'm willing to stop by and take pics video for someone interested. I'm on the Isle of Staten.

uhh... Yeah. I'll let one of you guys tell him what's wrong with this ad...perhaps there's some racetech, lithium ion or free fairings he forgot to mention.

Thanks for the good tips. I tried to contact the owner just to get more info and to find out if it has a title, but now response. So better stay away then. I considered it as a parts source, but if the motor is fried then there is probably not enough value in the rest of the bike to recoup the investment.

Hmmm ...don't mean to confuse the issue further but...  I would say be wary of  problems, but don't blow it off altogether .... If you just want it for parts though then 600 is too much! .... I was mainly thinking of the situ as you wanted to turn it into a running bike, and then how much extra you may have to spend to do so , both in time and money.

From what I have seen on this forum over a couple years there are sometimes better deals for parts bikes on CL ... There have been similar deals with a more complete bike too! .... But it is all in what is actually right/wrong with that particular bike .... If it was in Aussie then the money wouldn't be too bad, considering what the wreckers charge for stuff, but the US seems to have a much lower price range. Theoretically you could still buy it, strip it and sell off all the parts to recoup what the seller is currently asking.... Probably ..... I'm thinking/guessing though that 3-400 would be a better price?!
