Where does one find an R kit for the GS500. I saw a beautiful picture of the R kit.. it was awesome. I was trying to decide between the ninja 500r and the GS500F I like the fairing. I have a bit of time to be able to get money together since I am taking MSF in september. If i can find that kit and a nice gs500 nekkid I will be set.. any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If the GS will be your first bike and you want a fairing, here are my thoughts... (judging since that was your first post and you sound speculative)

Buy the GS.... don't touch it except mechanically. Ride it for SEVERAL thousand miles... drop it, dent it, scratch it, abuse it... generally, make all your beginner mistakes then buy a nice bike with a fairing.

Problem solved.

aboivin,
welcome to the forum. do a search for gs500r and you'll find the fairing post somewhere. The fairing comes from brazil I think and will set you back about $850. Thats what most go for locally too, but not as nice looking.

I have to agree with styme187 on this one. MSF is great start, so is a used gs500. keep it naked and use it as a stepping stone to the bike you really want.

Thats what I did.

yeah, no fairings is definately the way to go, my friend has dropped his brand new zx6r on both sides now, and has been plenty pissed at having to spend over $1000 each time replacing plastics and a few odd bits, but mostly the plastics, i've dropped mine about 3 times, and like the last time when i forgot to take th elock off the brake disc, i layed on the ground dying laughing, because i spent $100 on frame sliders, and he spend $2500 on new plastics,

the only thing i've ever had break was my right side mirror, which i ended up just buying bar end mirrors which i had wanted ,and just recently bought a new set and went back to the normal ones, if you really want a fairing, the ninja 500's have the fairing just up top, and not on the sides, so i fyou did drop it, there wouldn't be too much cosmetic damage, otherwise get a gs, and wait a few months and then get the plastics for it

jusfuris

where did you find frame sliders for the GS? or are they all universal?

Keep on mentioning your bike, and one of these days, you'll get what's coming to ya.  All that will be left of your RR is a Big Red X like the picture above     Hope you have that thing chained down!

jusfuris, sorry, i've got the frame sliders for my speed four, you'd have to look around for some for the gs, i'm not sure where they'd fit on, considering the engine doesn't just bolt up to the main sides of the frame, the only way i can picture it is if they expected you to drill your frame

i have seen engine bars, not a whole cage, but just bars that cover from the front of the engine down to the base, that might be about as good of protection as you can get, to be honest though, the bike is so skinny, i'm pretty sure the handlebars are just gonna take most of the force

jusfuris

alright, thanks man!

try these 'strada' versions:

the case guards are probably better but hard to find-I don't think they're made anymore.
