Big update, bikes welded in, needs loom shortening and glassing. Oh and a slightly longer chain.
Diy offset sprocket, fits perfectly.

Chain lines up perfect, just the length that needs sorting.
I get 1 day off a week and no garage so if it's not sunny I'm screwed.
Only a few jobs to go, they will have write ups on them.

This is a really cool project. The only other GS I saw with a single sided swingarm was one by Servus.

Good job and looking forward to more.

Just bought the chain which is 4 links bigger, I need some silicone pipe to put my pods out the side, brake lines and a new rest tyre.

I'll be trying to start it over the weekend  if it starts it's onto the fiberglass seat which I need a garage for and then to the powdercoaters. It's so close yet so far.

jacob92icu

What plans do you have for the fiberglass seat?

A r6 r1 looking tail but not sure - This project is on hold for now as the engine needs rebuilding and i have no garage to attempt it now i have a fiancee and a son.

However the single swinger is still going on my current bike - I welded another shock mount in and just waiting on another off-set sprocket and chain to come, then it's done :)

but i also want some air vents on the sides of the tail for the regulator flow and for the looks.

Totally undecided but almost certainly pointy with scoops :p

Did you ever finish the single swap as im trying to do this myself
The man with greasy hands

Ok so the swingarm is in.

I had to overcome to srpcoket issue by welding a collar onto the end of the shaft which had a circlip groove in, i also put washers on :p
Abit bodge but only thing that would work as cobalt didn't cut through the shaft.

my mate lost his keys for his disclock so i brought my grinder and cut his monkey metal lock off so he could help me with the swingarm, thats his boot in the picture.

Almost done, mid stand which is now defunct might i add is rubbing on the wheel

I took it for a test drive, when leaning left the back wobbles, i think it's the chain rubbing on the sprocket cover which my grinder will fix that tomorrow.

Front wheel on now, bodge fix for the oil resi for the shock also :p cable ties which would later snap and the resi hit my wheel scuffing my paint :(

stilkl need to go back to renthals on the front bars and spray my crash bars and grab handle.

Good job ive got another day off to complete this :)

jacob92icu

Wow... Very cool! Any plans on painting? That is a pretty clean swap if I do say so my self.

Once i have worked out all the kinks i will be getting every powdercoated and the tank + plastics painted. Like the shock is soft as crap, bottoms out all the time so i need to upgrade to another Eye to Eye shock, been looking at CBR900 shocks

But because this is my runner - for now anyway it wont be getting anything done until i rebuild the other bike in the shed :p

gl0ckage

I have revert back to a stock swingarm due to some clearance issues which i will sort out in the coming weeks.
:p

jacob92icu

Definitely keep us updated!! Any plans on changing the tail after you have another running bike and can tinker with the GS more?

Yes tail will be changed most likely for my runner just to a seat  on a minimal subframe as I hate plastics.

Gl0ckage - it's like you were reading my mind lol. I am still thinking how to rebuild my subframe to carry diy dual seat. There wouldn't be a problem if I was welding and had some nice mig. But I have to think way of fabricating subframe to be ready for welding.
One garage quoted me roughly for £180 for building subframe. I would want to cut costs down to at least half of it

I scrapped my idea for winter and went and fixed my other 2 bikes. One has most upgrades bandit 600 wheel swap etc. The other went for airbrushing and a custom tail light + headlight

Here's a pic

Don't judge the rust as it's been sat while stuff was being painted
The mesh he's put on is tatty he ****ed the fairing and glassed the joining section over to fit my taillight he's bodged the tank holder and made his own. It's got sticker marks where he cut the tribal flames out. It's just awful.

Compression is OK right cylinder is 135 and other is 120.
It now starts but can't rev so a carb rebuild is on the cards.

He used carbon tape on the frame and it's peeling and bubbling. It's just shaZam! vinyl.

So now I've got to sort the dying on acceleration and the fact there's some rattling from engine and the fact piston rings have probably gone.

Iarn

That sounds awful. I'd be so pissed is somebody screwed my bike up that badly. Got plans to fix it?

gl0ckage

Unsure it's up for sale at the moment as I don't have time, the bike behind it is another gs500 that just needs brakes bleeding and chain putting on. Once it's running I might tackle the other but it's that "custom" I cannot be bothered with it now. Just feel fed up with it.
