Hi just thought id introduce myself as a new member
after 6 years of riding 125 2 strokes on and off have decided to finally do my training and test.hopefully will be booking It in next few weeks.got my theory this tuesday.any advice on practical test would be appreciated. Goin for my direct access.
any way on to the bike.i have bought a 95 gs500e 35000 miles.according to mots has done around 4k in last 4 years.looking forward to hopefully passing and riding it.anything i should look out for.it starts perfect from cold so no cold start issues like ive read

Not sure how the licensing in the UK works so can't help you there.

For the bike, since it seems to start and run good, the biggest things to check are the tires and rubber lines (e.g. fuel line) for wear and/or dry rot.  be sure to check the tread depth at the center not just the sides.

Yeh all rubber seems to be good.
few things to sort though fork seals weep ever slightly.sidelight bulb doesnt Iight up even with new bulb and the rubbrr wrap around mount for the front indicators has snapped.so all easy fixes hopefully.also want to change the rear end somehow as the standard light on the rear is huge.i am going to try and source a smaller led one from somewhere

No idea on the new mod 1 and mod 2 tests as i passed my test over 10 years ago when u just turned up ride the bike then go home much like how the car test is.

apparently the mod 1 is just a glorified cbt , doin slow speed manouvers etc and mid 2 is road riding
but thats all i no lol.

as for the gs in the uk . .   Watch the tin worm eating your frame after a few trips out in bad weather also winter weather is bad on your calipers  regular maintenance needed there , engine is bullet proof , gearbox is good   , ive had no electrical faults other than cold weather killing my battery , so all in all poor build quality is its main problem and i personally think the front forks are stupidly to soft and dive under hard braking etc

Thanks for the reply gave the it a good clean with a pressure washer today inc engine.however since cleaning the is now a knock coming from top end.its there whether hot or cold but goes as soon as revs increase.its been sat in the garage just under a week and was fine the last time I started it.however I cant ride it as only have my cbt at the minute.oil level is spot on and very clean.is it worth changing oil for some thicker stuff to see if that cures it

Oof. General consensus is to not use a pressure washer anywhere close to your engine or electricals. Pressure washers tend to force water into the places you don't want it to go.

Welcome to gstwins!  From Stoke myself, theory is easy you should fly it, just try a few online tests prior and youre good.

As for the test, make sure you can concentrate alot,  I failed twice,  both with 0 minors,  1 major.  First one being putting my foot on the grass since aparrently it's dangerous and you can break your foot doing it (I call bs). And my second one was going over a zebra crossing whilst a pedestrian was approaching the roadside to cross. They follow you quite far away,  so I got screwed over for that too.

Just gotta make those checks and be religious to them, concentrate as well as you can and youll do great.  A good teacher when your doing practices is good too. 

I drove previously 125s for 3 years so only needed one practice for each module.

Passed the third try though,  no minors if you were interested :P

Thanks for the advice jake passed my theory today so thats now out of the way.just got to book training and test now.am going to try changing the oil on the gs for 20w50 see if the noise goes.started it today and wasnt as bad.took both plugs out today and both were a nice grey colour and using a screwdriver sounds like its coming from camshaft area which ive heard these bikes have problems with.think im just going to change the oil and just use it and see what happens.will soon know if its something more serious.
also are there any bushes in between the handlebar mounting bracket and the two allen key bolts that bolt it to the top of the bike.as when i pull on the bars or lean quite hard its makes a loud mtal cracking sound as if bolts are stressing.have looked and the top plate seems to have a bit of movement in it but the actual headstock doesnt move atall so dont think its the bearings.its got the clip on type bars if it helps
