Hey all! Just wanted to introduce myself!

My fiancee and I just got our motorcycle licenses a couple of weeks ago, and immediately went out and got new bikes! After reading a ton of writeups and reviews, we decided on a Yamaha Virago 250 for her, and a blue GS500F for me! We've had a blast cruising around town together in our new rides.

Knowing next to nothing about motorcycles, I'm glad to have stumbled onto this forum. There seem to be lots of great, knowledgeable people here. I know the drill for the newbie: I'll try to take some pictures of the GS sometime this week, and I'll upload them to the board! :)

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Welcome Lee and by the way...great choice for a bike!  I myself have a BLUE (The best color :thumb: ) GS500F.  IT's a blast cruising in it!  A couple of things that I've learned so far from this bike...watch for the gear shifter getting stuck on you, it does that now and again, and the clutch was a little loose on mine.  I had to take it back to the dealership the day after I first rode it because I had no friction in the clutch what so ever.  Enjoy your new ride and I think it's great that you and your fiancee cruise together.  My fiancee and I also ride together.  AT first he was afraid of me owning a bike but now he's totally into it!

Thanks all! BTW, bluedevil, I hear you about the shifter getting stuck on you, I have a tough time going from 2nd to 3rd sometimes, where I'll think I'll have upshifted only to find I'm still in 2nd when I declutch! Also, when I downshift from all the way to 1st, I find I'm still in 2nd and the engine starts bogging when I start up again!

One thing I'll say, neutral is almost too easy to find. Worse is when you're upshifting expecting to go somewhere and... nothing. No power. DOH!

I know where you're coming from Lee with the whole Neutral thing.  It's happened to me a couple of times.  Also, when I come to a stop it's hard to find neutral and see the green light when it's so darn sunny out here.
