2005 - brake light and flashing module question

I have a 2005 model, and am trying to understand how my brake light is wired.  I believe that...

Brown wire is for tail / parking light (always on in ON or PARK key position)
White wire with black stripe is for when brake is applied
Black wire with white stripe is for ground.

Correct?

Reason why I'm asking is that I purchased a module that should cause my brake light to flash initially before remaining on.  I've wired the +ive wire from the module along the white wire with black stripe.  The -ive wire from the module along the black wire with white stripe.  Everything worked properly beforehand.  Once wired up, no brake light, solid or flashing.  Reversing the white and brown wires and I get no parking light, but brake light works.  This suggests to me that the module is defective.  Thoughts anyone?

Yes, that's correct.

I'm not whizz at this stuff by any means, but from your description of the what it does with those hook-ups, I'd tend to agree with your conclusion too. However, is that actually a negative on module?  If its like a flasher relay, in which case it would be like splicing into one hot wire only.  For instance if you wanted the brake light to flash when it is applied (which only has 12V power when you hit the brake) you would hook up white wire with black stripe into the module, and then continue on to the actual brake light out of the module... same white wire with black stripe in and out.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how most flashers work that I'm aware of - Its kind of like a basic switch wiring but has an automatic flash feature is how I think of it.  Think 'Line IN, Load Out'

I just hooked one of these up to my Suzuki GS and the two control wires on the module must be spliced between the wire(s) that goes to the brake light switches (brake pedal and front lever). You should get a schematic and find which wire(s) this is, or you can follow the wire out of the brake light to the brake switches. The module breaks the wire and fits between the brake light and the switches (I hope that's understandable)...then you ground the black wire on the module.

When you pull the lever, or push on the brake pedal the switch power goes into the module and powers it so that the pulse it sends out goes to the brake light.

If I remember correctly the wire you need to splice into is white with a black stripe. The module goes at the point where both switches are in front of it. Cut the wire and wire the input wire on the module to the front cut wire (leading to the front of the bike) then connect the output wire from the module to the other end of the cut wire (leading to the tail light). The module is now "between" the switches and the brake light.

The module manufacturer website should have a very clear diagram on how to wire this.

Okay, I took a closer look - thanks for the feedback - and it turns out that there is an IN and an OUT side to the module.  I wired it backwards.  Of course, now the thing has melted and is totally fubared.  The irony is that I managed to mistakely order two when I placed my order and had to go to the trouble of cancelling one of the orders.  I guess I should have bought the second one after all...!

Yes I tried to explain that in my previous post. On the "Back Off" that I put on my bike they show that very clearly on the schematic.
