What is that sound

I have been hearing a sound coming from the right side of the engine on the bottom towards that back (transmission?), I have a video if you can hear it. It kinda sounds like a v-twin but clunky. My buddy said its probably because the oil is just a little past the "F" on the dipstick, but I wouldn't imagine a little to much oil doing that. Sounds like a carb leak somewhere or the top of the carbs the rubber peice that goes up in down is making a lot of noise

see what I hear is coming from the bottom, like a knocking sound.. I figured something was up with the carb because there is no hesitation but the rpms dont drop fast.  What rubber piece are you referring to?

Could the knocking be the fact I have been using 93 octane and is that damage that I hear?

Nope. Higher than recommended octane does no good, but I think no harm either (other than maybe some minimal loss of power while using it, but it certainly won't make your GS knock).

It could be.

adidasguy told me from the moment I got my bike running the first time to not use anything but lowest octane of gas. 87. He said our engines are not performance engines and thus cannot properly handle the explosive power of higher octane. He said it could cause knocking (noise) and higher octane didn't provide any benefit.

Have you seen the video, coming from the lower right I think.. no shavings in oil and no loss of power

Higher octane fuel is not "more explosive", it's just more resistant to self ignition, which almost never occurs in low compression-ratio engines such as GS500.

With higher octane fuel, the GS engine should work smoother/quieter, and with less posibility of misfire, but in general, it's a waste of money.

Probably a clutch basket.

While the engine is idling in neutral, pull the clutch, and observe if there's a change in the sound you're hearing.

I am hearing alittle cam chain noise and possibly clutch basket rattle.  got to isolate the noise alittle better.  auto-stethiscope or even shade tree screw driver to the ear trick.
