while im waiting on my pops to finish up some paint work on my bike ive got in to the carbs to see whats goin on with my lean condition i had last yr. heres a pic of the old plugs.

just want to make sure my slides are alright. it looks like one was drilled and one of the holes was filled but both holes are the same size. on both carb slids. i also found the dynojet needles to be in the carbs.
the ones in the carbs i found on the left and right is an extra set i was given when i picked my bike up from the PO. i know my jetting needs to be fixed as the plugs show and finding too small of main jets. if i swap out the jets and use the jetting from wiki for the vance exhaust and drop in filter which position on the needle does the clip go? it says 2 washers under the needle but i do no have the one c-clip needles.

Whst year is the bike?  It should be grey plastic washer the #4 washer them the c clip then the washer the needle already has on top of that

Hold on here...the dynojet needles have a very different taper on the bottom of the needle than the stock jets, so any comparison to stock is not really that helpful.  Maybe someone with some experience with the dynojet needles can help you?  Alternatively, I would swap out the main jets and leave the clip where it originally was on the needle. If it feels too rich at 4k-7k Rpms with mid throttle, then move the clip up.  If it feels too lean, then move the clip down.  The needle won't have much effect at high Rpms with full throttle, or at low Rpms with less than 1/4 throttle.  Those are dependent on your main jet and your pilot jet/idle mixture screws respectively.

Oops never noticed that was a Dino jet needle  :technical:

awesome ill give that a try once i get everything back together. so frustrating that bike shops arent open here on mondays  :technical: isnt the needles on the left the stock euro needles? i thought those bikes came with c-clip style. im not totally sure. i know the ones that came out are def dynojets.

I have experience with dynojet needles... I highly suggest running the stock ones instead. My bike came with them and I spent a few weeks trying to jet for them, wasn't ever too happy. Bought some stock needles, gained 10mpg and a good bit of midrange.

dang thats alot of mpg! yeah ive had issues with them. the bike ran pretty well but lean before a slide spring broke. when i first got the bike i had a problem where when i would get on the throttle after a while of ridinngg one cylinder would shut down. flooding maybe i donno what the cause was. i was competently motorcycle illiterate. had a bike shop "fix" it. they said jetting was perfectly fine. they failed to notice the frame petcock vacuum hose not connected to the left carb and the fact the 122 dynojet main jets were wayyyy too small. i finished the season riding it that way. never had the cylinder problem again tho. they also installed the float bowls on the wrong carbs. took 460 of my hard earned dollars. after this ive been learning as much as possible. im def going to swap them out and leave the c-clips one slot down from top and see. ill get back on tuesday after i pick up the jets and get everything back together. i really appreciate all the help and knowledge ive learned over the yr from this place its amazing!

I'm no expert, but those plugs don't look lean to me :dunno_black:

I guess they are just an overall picture though.

Why are you thinking you have a lean condition OP?

The Buddha

It is lean, but usually plug pulls are a idle mix reading cos you ride and stop and put it in neutral, and by then the idle mix is what has colored the plug. That is OK for an idle mix. As long as you're richer past maybe 1/8 throttle.
Cool.

Thanks Buddha, I'm currently trying to dial in my carbs myself and am finding such a variance in opinions on what's good/bad rich/lean etc.

I'll post a pic of my first plug chop elsewhere - that'll really scare you!

awesome. such good help here. work as got me leaving the bike sit but im going to get it changed over tonight get the dynojet shaZam! out of there. i did find the 127.5 main jets in the box of extra carb parts the PO gave me. those will go in and done to the wiki. what is the added benifit of going with the 40 pilot jet? if i dont need it then it helps me out so i dont have to wait till friday to get them and get the bike up and running for this weekend.
