Thanks again for the throttle tube Bomb.
Figured I would update this thread on the install. The R6 tube swapped right over with no problems on my '04.  Very noticeable difference on wrist position when grabbing a handful of throttle. No more repositioning the grip getting upto speed.  Highly recommended mod. Cheap and easy install that adds convenience and comfort alongside performance... and it's beneficial for both ends of the rider spectrum from touring to track.

Bumping up an old thread.

I was thinking that my GS's throttle was too long. Are there easy ways to modify the stock tube or is replacing it easy/best option?

I have a 1992. What tubes will fit?
Thanks,
Legnd

Motion pro part number 01-1045.  It's cheap on eBay or amazon.  It's an Sv650 tube.

Basically the only difference between that and the stock tube is a larger diameter circle that the cable rolls over.  No really easy way to reliably modify the stock tube to accomplish this that I can think of.

It appears that SV650 throttle tube (motion pro part number 01-1045) is currently the only known direct replacement for the 89-00.  The GS500 stock throttle tube is 1/4 turn, while the SV650 throttle tube is 1/5 turn.  Changing out the throttle tube is definately the easiest and it only costs about $10.

If you want a more drastic change, the R6 throttle tube is a 1/6 turn... However, it only fits the newer GS models.  You would have to also change out the engine cut-off switch/starter switch housing in order to make it fit... Or somehow modify your current switch housing a little bit to make it work.

But for the cheapest and easiest fix, SV650 throttle is the way to go on your particular bike.

Bump for quick question. I just installed the R6 throttle tube but I have Zero play in the cable. The throttle closes completely but I would like a little extra play. The adjusters at the handlebars are completely in and in looks like my carb adjustment is also completely in, Am i missing something. (See picture)

Does your idle rise if you turn the handlebar all the way to the left or right? If it doesn't, I wouldn't worry about it.

Ride it like a 2 stroke:
1: Rev high
2: Add oil
3: Repeat

Mine is also tight; however, I do have maybe a mm or 1/8'' at most of play adjusted all the way out at both carb and grip.  I have raised bars, and I've never had an issue at full lock either direction.  Watched this closely for a long while after the install, but doesn't seem to be an issue... same amount of play in throttle at full lock as well.

My idle is not affected by full lock movement. I'll leave it and see how it goes, if not I could always remove the top lock nut at the carb and gain a couple mm.
