There is a hole in the right side casing of my engine.  It looks like there should be a suzuki label over it.   I currently have it blocked with duct tape.  Does anyone have an extra cover laying around? Or can you point me to a cheap suzuki sticker that will fit over it and last more than a month?

I don't know if this qualifies as cheap, but Bike Bandit sells the oem metal emblem decal for about $15.  They'll stay on.  Usually the only reason they'd come off is if your bike goes down (speaking from experience).

Diagram at http://www.bikebandit.com/1996-suzuki-gs500e/o/m139235#sch236254

Its part #13 and/or #18 (right and left, they're the same part) in the diagram.

Hope that helps.

Anyone have a cheaper solution to this, other than duct tape?

I can't remember the size off hand but you can put a rubber grommet or plastic grommet in there.

Like this style:

It has to be pretty shallow but I had one in the 94 I bought and it stayed in just fine.  I think you can pick them up at home depot or lowes and they are usually under a few $$$ each.

You "might" be able to use a solid cover from a GS450. I emphasize might because a GS500 cover fits on a GS450 perfectly. But if the bolt in the end of the GS500 crankshaft sticks out further than a GS450's, it won't work.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Just put in a rubber blanking grommet... cost 50cents max, looks fine!
