Well this is what I am starting with. 1989 gs500 ran good and the price was pretty good. as 6300 miles on it. Well after closer inspection there are a lot of little things that needed done, like oh yeah gas tank was held on with zip ties, got all the bolts and rubber spacers so most things are now taken care of. Runs a little rich so ordered a lunch box for it. katana 600 shock should be here tuesday along with choke cable and avon tires. also putting bar end mirrors on as I was so oblivious that I didn't realize it didnt not have mirrors on it. Fuel Tank didnt have rubber around the bottom and didnt want to spend the money buying a thin piece of rubber so taped the tank off and sprayed 7 coats of plasti dip. stage 1 should be dine at the end of this week, cosmetic stuff will wait until we get snow. Any thoughts are welcome.

Sorry about the lack of proper English, typing this with my kids sitting on my lap.

Wow,  That looks like a good start to a neat project.  Personally, the cafe look isn't my thing, but I love to see the builds.  Be sure to post the pics.

looks good like that to me!

Im not cutting the seat..I should say this is more fighter than cafe. Just the bar ends are what I have always had on cafe's I have had in the past. I would like to get a sv/katana rear wheel just because I think I 150 is a good size to find a huge amount of tires, plus the shop near me seems to always have them in stock. I will get some pictures up as soon as I figure out how to use a smart phone..contradictory name for a phone that makes me feel dumb. I will try and keep this updated. Thanks to all

So please ignore my messy garage. Here are some newer pictures. Cleaned the engine and gave it 4 coats of BBQ paint. got the bar-end mirrors on, and touched up some surface rust on the frame after putting some rust encapsulator on. My brother inlaw is going to give me a hand getting the katana rear shock in on saturday and I will get her back together and get some better pictures. Also got the exhaust off last night..sanding the crap out of it and put rust encapsulator all over the header pipes...so that should be cured by tonight then it is a couple coats of bbq on there..still has the stock exhaust and I will leave it be for now. the chrome is still perfect on it and well this has all been done on the cheap so I am not going to mess with that yet. All in All I think I have 100 in total into this.

Thank you...the fist picture I posted was the one that was up on the C-list...which was umm a little misleading. I did buy it for half of what he was asking though. got the exhaust done last night..and now I am trying to get the airbox back in. Any one know the magic way to get it back in? I feel like it took me less time to get the front forks set up and the katana rear shock in then it has for me trying to get this damn air box back in. PS if anyone wants a simple rear shock upgrade I recommend the katana 600 shock. Like night and day it is. I am about 15 stones and it is perfect.

I seen your gs on craigslist a couple months back I believe it was on same time I bought mine or shortly after I got a great deal on mine

Yeah it probably was..it was in Hudson which is where I work so it was easy to stop by while I was taking a lunch break. I got it for half of what he was asking..These bikes are great but no one should pay more than a 1000 for one honestly.

Sycotravis

I paid either 2 or 400 lol and a case of beer not worth much more than that

So I finally got the bike roughed together today. took it for a ride down the street to make sure everything was good..well realized who ever had worked on the carbs before decided that the bowl drain screw was not needed on one side and just shoved some little rubber cap on there..so ordered a screw..as no one as a m8 with a .7 pitch..such a pain..but it ran good..need a new air filter though. other than that runs great..the kat 600 rear feels good. Any one have a good link to cleaning up the wiring so I can run the rear with out the side plastics..I am lazy and dont want to figure it out my self. Thank you

MARider

So bike is running rich..I assume. I took out the air filter and it fired right up with no choke. The idle screw was set high don't know if that had anything to do with it. I am going to try to see about the fuel/air mixture screws. Could some one give me a good starting point for how many turns out? I have read so many things I cant even keep it strait. 2 turns a good starting point?

MARider

Carbs are taken care of now. Got the carbs off and and looked as though the previous owner had taken out the brass covers off the fuel/air screws and well they must have just said "hey there is a screw here lets turn it randomly" Left carb was 7 yes 7 turns out the right side was 4 turns out..I dont know how this thing ran when I first bought it..glad I have personally put about 2 miles on it. I was hoping some one could tell me a good way of cleaning up the carbon that I know has been built up due to the over rich condition?
