So I ordered short levers and know that they do not bolt on to the gs so I have a katana clutch perch that I was going to use but it doesnt have the clutch safty switch..any one know if I can use the one from the gs?

I'm not sure if the safety switches are interchangeable... The GS500 switch is an oddball. If you're okay with doing so, you could either rewire the Kat switch into the GS harness, or just bypass the switch by wiring it into itself. Just be sure to always start in neutral, or with the clutch.

Of course, I don't have the Katana perch in front of me, so I'm not 100% sure lol. You could always pull the switches from both and see if they're the same.

I bypassed the clutch switch on my 97 and used it for 80k miles that way without a problem, made it same as 4 old Hondas I had before the GSs.  On the 97 the 2 wires from the switch had the connectors reversed inside the headlight housing so I just unplugged and plugged them together.  Easy.

On my 02 the connectors were the same way so I closed it up intending to splice wires later and 10 years later now I don't think I'll bother.  :icon_lol:  I think your 89 might be same as my 97 was?   :dunno_black:

Thank you. I realized after the fact some one did that with the katana so I will just do it with my gs. I always start in N with the clutch in anyways as I am paranoid. Hopefully after Friday I can update my build thread that has died off.

Well after looking at the clutch perch I realized it has the switch installed..I feel dumb

Hehe. That's actually kind of funny. Just mane sure the Kat switch works the same way as the GS one. I did this with a GSXR perch, and the switch actually has opposite on/off positions (explained: http://www.gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=65794.msg791668.msg#791668).

So, you might need to bypass anyway.
