just air screws, mains, or perhaps washers?

So after my crazy idea to do all my mods to my bike (see here: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=63334.msg813415#msg813415) I have everything running perfect...almost. I have one tiny annoying dead spot right where I tend to settle when I am just toolin around. 1200-3500 pulls great. 5K-WOT, REALLY great but there is a tiny little dead spot between there that just kinda, lags a bit. If it wasn't right in that "cruising zone" I wouldn't care, but I shift into that RPM range quite often...so the question comes to what should I fiddle with? I figure it's down to half turn or so on the mix screws, maybe a washer on the needle, or do I go up one more size on the main, or even one on the pilot?

For reference, as of now, I have 40/150, 2.5 turns, 2 washers, K&N lunchbox, 1200R Sportster muffler w/ baffles.

I'm not a carb wiz by any means, but I'll offer some direction with what I do know...

From your description, it sounds like you are having an issue with your transition.  Which would either mean a needle position with washers/or o-ring on the needle... or the transition is too big/small, and you do need to change the main to different size.  Steps to figure that might include a plug chop and also ensuring that there is indeed nothing else causing this such as a leak...  What air filter are you using?

well I thought is was lean...apparently I went the wrong way. It would seem a baffled harley muffler is much more restrictive than I assumed. I am still at 40/150 2.5 turns, but removed both washers so I am sitting at stock needle settings. Still a small dead spot in the middle there..so I will try dropping down to a 147.5 main...assumptions apparently can't be made. Also, just in case, I'll check my valve shims. Can't hurt!
