Well about a month ago my friend picked up his 2000 TL1000S: Red, dual chrome yoshimura exhaust, jetted, billet chrome wheels (a grand a piece), carbon fiber accents everywhere, polished frame, gel seat.

Next thing you know he gets accepted to UTI for automotive tech. He wants to sell it to me. It's got 6500 miles and I can buy it for $4750. It's in perfect condition. what do you guys think?

Kerry

Would this be why you can't afford to have a new throttle cable installed at the shop?

I am not as familiar with the TLS as I am with the TLR in respect to resale value but that price sounds about right for that bike. The bling really does not add a lot to the resale value. A 2000 model with 6.5K miles is rare. My TLR is a 2000 with 15K miles. They are great bikes.

Jetted? They are fuel injected. Either it has a Yosh box remap or a PCII.

as for my opinion....Go for it!

Do not forget........the best resource on the web for the TL is www.TLPlanet.com  :thumb:

Ahhhhh you don't want that bike...you'll hate it...(What's your buddies Number?!?!?!)hehehehehe

Sounds like a good deal....be prepared for lots and lots of torque...

If you pass on it I may know someone who'd like it ( ME. )

Love the sound of those REAL Vtwins.... (not one of those antique chrome plated farm tractor engines..)
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

The TL bikes vtwin has a particular sound to it, different than even another vtwin sportbike (liek an rc51). beautiful sound. BIG bike though, I mean physically. how Suzuki managed to make such a wide vtwin is beyond me.

Bling Bling is good in that it probably wasnt ridden hard... :dunno:  maybe burnouts?

Wide? WTF! Have you ever sat on one or even riden one? Heck of a lot narrower then any other 4 cyl and the RC51.

Yes Narrower than every other Vtwin.... except pantablo's favorite V-twin... the super hawk... So lemme explain it to Pantablo... OK the TL has to be wider and heavier and even a bit taller because it has a real frame... One that goes all the way down bedind the motor and under and across. It adds a whole 8 lbs to the weight, and makes the frame really 3 inches wider... Oh BTW something about a rotary damper being next to the rear cyl head under the frame too... BTW A TL/S can be convereted to a naked bike with a big round headlight... and made to look like the GS'es Big brother. Like a giant big brother on steroids.
Cool.

I sat on a 2004 (2003?) TL1000s at the dealer when I bought my cbr. Felt bigger to me than the RC51, which felt like a big inline 4. Looks MUCH bigger as well.

I'll take your word for it. I was just giving my personal experience with this bike. Yeah, the Superhawk feels as narrow as the 89-00 gs500's (no shaZam!), and the Aprilia Falco doesnt feel that much wider than the superhawk, just longer.

not jetted sorry yeah it's got that yoshi thing, not really familiar with those.

TLiteR

I am also a TLR owner.  If the S is anything like the R, it is a far cry from a GS500.  The Tl1000s are a bit of a big bike, but they are manageable.  I say go for it, sounds like a decent price, and you won't be dissapointed!

Oh, I forgot to mention that TL's are expesive to own. They do not like to be left in stock form. You must mod her to keep her happy. You are a little fortunate that some mods have been done, but this is just a start. There are many many many mods that can be done, some cheap and some $$$.
