Okay for the last year I have been trying to figure out whats wrong with my 2004 Suzuki GS500F. I purchased it over a year ago and noticed it had starting issues and was told by everyone that it was my carbs, air filter, battery or sparks. I did all this and still had the same issue. I finally sucked it up and took it into a motorcycle mechanic last week. I was informed that the 2004 Model was a newer model when they added an electronic Throttle Positioning type sensor- similar to automobiles.

My bike is still being fixed, but the mechanic told me he contacted Suzuki Dealer on this and the issue is TPS type sensor. Will update everyone with more info.

Feel free to comment, but I am making this Thread for others who might have this issue

Sorry I call BS.
Well it has some crap slapped onto the side of the carbs.
Except, nothing else in the bike takes that as an input. Maybe its some how connected in some idiotic way into the spark advance. Except, I doubt it.
In any case its not of much consequence, carb is all mechanical, spark advance has a lot less to do with it than you might think. Like we mod it to advance 5 degrees static  (@ idle) and change the dwell so it reaches full advance @ 3500 instead of 4k ... so these are huge steps, that TPS aint crap.

Cool.

I agree.  It's probably gummed up jets or valve clearances.

The Mechanic cleaned out the carbs and the jets. He says it starts up right away now, but something is wrong with the Idle and it stays around 2k, according to the Dealership that he spoke with the TPS- Throttle position Sensor is suppose to read a certain value. He hasnt check it or anything and is waiting for me to give him the okay to charge me more for labor and whatnot. Im not sure what to do, bc He will not give me an estimate as he doesnt know if the issue is the TPS, but thats what he thinks.

Yea yea yea ... put 20 pilots it in and set the TPS to "Kick his cluless ass" and it will work perfectly.
Or you can try an extra 1/2 turn on air screw (if its under 5 turns) and set the TPS to "drag him to a field and beat him volts and it may work too.

Lmao Buddha, you cracked me up good on that one!

TPS is hooked up to the ICU that is is hooked into starter circuit - coils, starter button, neutral switch, pulse gen - not sure what else off top of my head. But it's supposed to 'sense' throttle position and adjust timing in the ICU accordingly.

I really don't think the TPS is the issue. Only thing I've read about a TPS gone bad for a gs500 was rough idle. It gave similar symptoms to a mixture issue, but very minor issues. I don't think high idle can be caused by the simple gs500 TPS, high idle points to mixture first. I'm sure you could take the TPS off and most folks would not notice a change from one with vs without.

Even if it is the TPS, I wouldn't pay him to test or adjust it. I have seen a TPS adjustment somewhere in these threads before. I'm sure it's simple, but I never gave a good look toward it. Testing it likely requires little more than a multimeter.
