Well... I did the SV pretty good yesterday. Getting spirited with my boss and his car. Entering a left hand turn on the brakes, released the front and trailed in with the rear brake. Caught something on the road entering the turn that when combined with the rear brake got the ass end sliding. Caught it as it tried to low side me and ended up getting shot over toward the other car. Impacted the car just behind the front wheel, ended up on the hood then rolling to a stop on the ground. Bike was sliding on one side, hit the curb, flipped to the other side and came to a rest facing me and the car.

Thank god I'm an ATGATT guy. Saved me from my self basically  I've got a touch of rash on my right knee, bruise from where I hit the handlebar on right thigh, scratch on right forearm, and possibly a mild concussion. My knee is a little sore from being between the bike and the car, but overall I faired really well thankfully

Bike is saveable, I carry insurance so the other car will be taken care of. Broke the water pump cover, bent the rear brake lever and sheared the left rear set right off the thing

OUCH!!! The main thing is YOU are ok.  A bike can be fixed or replaced. A person can't be.

Phewww man good thing you are ok. When a car is involved it's never a good story. Wish you a speedy recovery to get back on the saddle.
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Glad your alright mate. That's real lucky. Make sure there's absolutely NO damage to the frame. No stress or fractures. Otherwise it's just not worth the risk.

Yikes. Hopefully you heal quick, man.

Take your time when it comes to the bike. By the time you heal up, you'll have plenty of time to assess the damage.

farrrrg :dunno_white: Sorry to read that.  Glad you are ok.  Sometimes injuries don't hurt as much as beating yourself up for the whole incident.  Don't let it drag you down.  Stuff happens!  Get well and fix that bad ass bike,... ;)

The only part of all this that's dragging me down is the fact that I can't ride right now!

I may end up selling this SV as a parts bike or something for 600-700 and taking that to put into a new bike. I'm looking at over $500 just to get it back on the road, from a very quick inspection. Forks might be bent, I don't know. I paid $1100 for the bike so I don't really want to put too much into it, as my whole plan was to buy it cheap, fix it up and make a little money off it. Now I just want it gone so I can move on my next bike! Trying to find a ZX-6R, CBR600RR, 955i Triumph Daytona/Speed Triple, Fuel injected SV650S, etc. Want to go fuel injection and have something to ride and just maintain for once, instead of ride and always be fixing  :thumb:

Alright, well it's now gonna happen that this SV is getting sold. Getting a little money for it, and the buyer wants it to be a stunt bike. Then I can start my search for a new bike!

I finally put my mind at ease today. Finally! I've been on pins and needles for the last week because I wasn't sure if my deductible was $500 (do-able) or $1000 (screwed - college student). Well I finally got on the phone today to make the call, and because I only carry liability/property damage, I don't have a deductible!

So they will pay your liability for hitting the other vehicle, but since you can't be liable to yourself and don't have collision coverage they will not cover the damages to your own bike or yourself.

mustangGT90210

To my bike, yes. Had I needed to go to the hospital I'd have still been covered since I have $10k in medical coverage as well. Which apparently also doesn't require me to pay a deductible. My agent spelled it out pretty well for me  :thumb:

I thought that you had it figured out.  I wanted to clarify so others didn't think that they could get their bike fixed for free if they have liability only coverage!  That's good that you had that medical payments coverage as well.  A very smart thing to have.

mustangGT90210

This is the first time I've ever needed to use my insurance so I've never really figured too much out. Luckily it didn't end worse for me.

I just can't wait to be back on 2 wheels, it's killing me not being able to ride  :technical:

Yea the Liability and Medical Payments to others don't have a deductible but any property coverage for your bike is going to be subject to a deductible. Honestly Med Pay and Liability are super cheap so I always recommend getting higher than minimum coverage there (never a good thing to be taken to court by someone you hit).

Also a lower deductible usually only raises your premium by a few bucks a month so it's always a good idea to look into a lower deductible just in case. Easier to budget an extra $15-$20 a month than an extra $500 on the spot.

This is the same for your cars and house also.

I always went with the big deductibles to save money. I live life as a broke college student with bad spending habits up till just recently, so less money a month was what I wanted. That and I've only ever been in 3 accidents, sideswiped on my learners permit, one that was never reported to insurance/cops (my ex rear ended me and we handled it) and then this one. So Being young and feeling pretty invincible had led me to just thinking it won't happen

So now I'm almost ready to start my search for a cash bike. Tossing around the idea of heading up to tampa and seeing if someone will finance me... Decisions decisions!
