Hey guys, been playing around with my bike a little recently and noticing that many of the rubber parts are perished. Wondering if anyone has advice on a couple small things.

First I'm wondering if there are generic parts that fit the 'cushion frame' or #16 in this diagram here. I'm sure most other bikes probably use a similar cushion to hold fairings in along with the push pin thingys.

Secondly I'm wondering if any auto parts store should have the oil drain plug gasket or # 5 on this diagram. I've tried searching for the size and gasket on the web to see if its just a generic piece but reading all the reviews for the parts are pretty negative saying it was not a gasket but a metal washer.

I'm just thinking there should be a $0.50 version of these readily available from a store. Seems silly to pay $3+ for each one.

Thanks guys,
Legnd
Just got into Motorcycling. First bike- 1992 Suzuki Gs500e. Purple with Pink highlights baby!

I'd say, "yes" and "yes"

You could probably use a generic rubber grommet for the cushion frame...auto stores usually have or electronics or electric supply...

Also most auto stores have oil drain plug gaskets...available in common sizes and made from various materials......fiber, metal crush, copper, etc...

To me, any motorcycle part which I can order online OEM for $2 or $3 is just about the same as "free"..I got 20 drain plug crush washers a long time ago...and I also ordered some spare fairing mounting hardware...

Just add the cheap stuff to a bigger order to save on shipping...

If you use Castrol ODT or similar chain oil, give the rubbers a dab of that when you're done doing the chain. Makes squeaky rubbers silent, and keeps your grips and pegs very sticky. Keeps them fresh, too.

Also get a selection of every rubber you'll need and try a proper Rubber Store.
I use this drain plug with non crush metal washer. When u do an oil change there's always a thin film of metal particles adhered to the super tough magnet......kinda satisfying.  :)
