Cleaning rust off the bike - questions...

I've got a full Yoshi system (which came with the '00 when I bought it in April), but the pipes running the whole length of the bike and into the engine block are wicked rusty - not all the way through, just topical.

Should I avoid using my dremmel with the rubber attachment? What should I use to get the rust off (and keep it off)?

There's also rust around the keyhole. Suggestions?

And what's the best solution for cleaning the wheels? They haven't been cleaned in a good long time (LOTS of brake dust).

Yosh and V&H headers are very very cheapo shite material... I tried cleaning it with a wire wheel, and ended up blowing a hole in it, then welders didn't want to touch it cos it was too thin, and rusty shaZam! splatters and pops and makes for shitty welding... so I got one with a dime sized hole sitting in my garage waiting for me to find a good welder that can weld thin crap.

Are the Yosh pipes chrome or black?

I used a wire cup brush on a angle grinder on my stock pipes.  This worked pretty well but I coulldn't get into some of the crevaces around the heat shield (you won't have this problem with yosh system).  I then painted with high heat paint 1400 degree.  Problem is I did not allow enough time for the paint to cure before firing up the engine and it blistered pretty bad over the first 12 inches or so.  I will have to wire brush again and repaint.  Strangely though it has not rusted one bit where it blistered (over a year ago).  Some have used BBQ paint with good results too.

Took me a couple of hours with a $3 wire brush from the hardware store.  I tried using a wire brush on a drill, but there were too many places I couldn't reach.  At least brushing by hand, I got a uniform result even in the the tight spots.

Painted with flat black barbecue grill paint, and after a year, it's starting to show a couple of spots.  Looks like it will need re-doing every other year or so.
