Carb slide difference

A few weeks ago, when I had the tank and air box off, I got my first look at the carbs since getting the bike. Mostly out of curiosity, I started the bike to see the slides work. I noticed that the left slide was sluggish, didn't move as much as the right.

This is also interesting for me because my left plug seems to always be fouled.

Should the slides move at exactly the same time/amount? Is there a screw/lever I can adjust it with or is this likely more a matter of having to go in and De-gunk something?

Sounds to me like you need a sync. As long as they're not sticking, the slides should be fine. It might not hurt to pop the carbs off and clean them, at which point you could do a visual sync. Buddha is much more versed in that technique. I generally use the "hillbilly" method (pulling plug wires).

Edit: The sync screw is that little Phillips head guy smack in the center of the carbs by the throttle cables.

Also, here's the link to the hillbilly method by our (very missed) Patrick.

Edit 2: But for real, here's the link:

Slides lifting not equally may not be = out of synch.
You may have a rip in a diaphragm. You also may have a vacuum leak. You also need to check it @ a good throttle opening and under load, there they should be equal. AKA on a dyno.
So is it idling and just off idle running even and smooth. Then you probably are fairly close in synch.

Cool.

Well, it runs pretty even to me, but I'd attributed the rough idles I do experience to my constantly weak battery (I live in an apartment, the bike lives on the street, well see if the solar battery keeper from auto zone solve the problem.

I'm going to check my valves soon, so I'll get some video of the slides then.

JAS, a link to rural ingenuity you say?

Whoops... My fault on that one. My senior design project, among others, is taking up more of my time than eating and sleeping combined (and I eat a lot). I updated my earlier post with the link.

Ah. Ok. As it turns out, I sort of accidentally half did that a few days ago.

I switched my iridium plugs back in...and forgot to put the wire back on lefty.  :D
