I was trying to get the horn to work. removed left hand ferring and removed horn. horn is alll buckled and warped. Tried horn straight on battery. and tested to see if there was power from horn switch when depressed using a multi meter. bike had power b4 i started. checked 3 amp fuse under seat. what has happened

Umm... the bike should have a 20 amp fuse located under the back right side tail fairing.  Not the one in the red cover - that is the spare... the one plugged in.

If you get absolutely no lights or electronics at all, its either the fuse or a completely dead battery... if you get dash lights, its not the fuse.

fuse ok battery has 12 volts across terminals no dash lights, headlights, turn signal, nothing?

BockinBboy

Battery should have at least 12.6V in order to start the bike.

Maybe check the fuse again closely? It's a thin metal that needs close inspection. And yes, it should be 20 amp.

Or maybe your battery bolts are not properly tightened? Did you take your battery out recently? I've had instances where my bolt was not 100% tightened and the bike acted like it was dead.

Or maybe something is wrong with your starter relay (the thing where the fuse plugs into).

There's a lot of wires, but the power for the electric stuff basically goes

battery -> starter relay/fuse -> turn signals, headlight, dash lights, horn

Starting with kgb. Known good battery. Should be a simple fix. If fuse is good, and battery tight, and good, what about frame ground, what is the overall condition of the ignition switch, i repeat should be a simple fix. Try connecting a booster pack to battery and see if you then have power on the dashl
