Petcock issue?

Hi!

2006 GS500F, 27K miles, third owner.

I've experienced what seemed like fuel starvation twice on the same stretch of road under similar ambient conditions: mild uphill grade, 75+ mph, 225+ lb rider, top gear. Bike revived once revs dropped but in both cases I got off the freeway, only to find nothing to fix since the bike then ran OK.

First instance, months ago, the petcock was on PRIME for 30 miles, low tank.

Second instance, today, the petcock was on RUN for 30 miles, and I'd filled up at a station immediately before the ride.

No issues in between the two instances or before, yet I drive that route at least once a week over 18 months. First instance happened probably after a year of weekly routes.

Question: does a stock petcock rotate all the way around either way? Mine does; is it modified? That is, is my tab missing (removed)?

Any advice appreciated. I've seen the fuel cut and petcock threads but wanted to see if they apply to me (and how to proceed).

Thank you!

Petcock shouldn't rotate all the way around AFAIK.
Clogged gas cap vent?
Inline fuel filter?

Ride it like a 2 stroke:
1: Rev high
2: Add oil
3: Repeat

No fuel filter AFAIK.

I suspect my petcock is modified, perhaps in an attempt to remedy this issue.

How do I unclog the gas cap vent?

Thanks!
